Hey guys, when ever I boot up Omega Race, all I get is a white dot in the middle of the screen. Truly a shame because its a beautiful machine! Anyone have any ideas where I should start? Id love to get this thing going, and any help would be AWESOME. Thanks

I just finished up an Omega Race myself...    I think its a great game..   wasn't all that popular in the day tho...

Anyway,  you might not have a monitor problem.  Is there any sign of life in the beast ??  Game sounds,  coins up ?  Start button light blinks when you add a credit ??

If there isn't any indication that the game board is working,  check ALL the voltages at the board connectors.  There are several different voltages the board requires.   A quick google search should net you either a manual or at least a pinout chart for the main and daughter boards.

If voltages are present, and there is no sign of game life, you probably have a board problem.  Those can be very tricky to troubleshoot.

If the game does appear to play, but the monitor is just showing a dot,  you've got monitor problems.  I'd need to know which monitor your game has (a G05-80x I'd guess).    First check ALL the fuses on the monitor chassis, there are several.    You see a white dot, that's good,  it means the high voltage unit is working, although the spot killer should have prevented the dot, it's still a good sign.

Is the audio amp powering up? (Do you hear like a rough tap sound through the speakers when you turn the power on, or a hum through the speakers once it's on?).

I'm just thinking along the lines of you may have two seperate problems that could be nothing to do with the game board.

You really need to check voltages at the board before you consider it bad,  but it does sound like you are headed that way.

I'm doing most of this from memory, so bear with me.

On the main board, connector J5 you should have +5 volts on pins 5 and 6 and grounds on pins 1 and 2.

You should also have roughly 8 volts on pin 4, but this is the charger circuit for the battery and shouldn't affect gameplay.

On connector J6 you should have 18 volts AC between pins 1 and 2 and between 3 and 2.

On the logic or daughterboard you should have 12 volts between pins 9 and 10 at connector J3

I think the board should boot with just the 5 and 12 volt feeds, so if they are present you probably do have a board problem.    If not, look at your power supply and check all the fuses.

Also,  find the battery on the mainboard,  check for acid leakage and any resulting corrosion or damage.  If the battery has leaked and caused corrosion, you got problems.

You'd probably have better luck finding somebody to fix your board for you if it comes to that.  Working boards don't come up for sale on Ebay very often.

BTW,  the reason you are just getting the white dot on the screen is that X-Y monitors don't work in the same manner as raster  (the more common type) of monitors.
X-Y monitors require a signal from the game board to direct the electron beam, without a signal from the game board the monitor has no direction information and the beam just sits in the middle of the screen.  (A very simplified explanation) Your monitor should have a circuit called the "spot killer" that detects this condition and kills the beam to prevent that white dot from burning the middle of the screen.   You appear to have an issue there as well, but if the gameboard was working it wouldn't matter as the spot killer would not be active.

Good luck!
