MameWAH Layout Question
« on: August 21, 2004, 12:15:50 am »
Ok I will admit, I am new to MAMEWAH.  I have read all I can find, but for some reason no matter what I try, I just can't seem to get my background file to show up in my layout.  I have even downloaded layouts, and still the background file doesnt show up (just a grey background).  I opened the layout.lay file and the path seems to be ok to the background, but still no matter what, it just doesn't show up.  Can anyone help?

MAMEWAH can be somewhat quirky when changing background images, escpecially when changing resolutions.  The way I do it is using the Mamewah Setup Utility.  In the center of the setup utility screen for your MAME emulator trash both your background layout and the background image using the "trash can" button.  After doing this see if you can go FILE < Save config blah...... and also FILE < Save NMS ( i believe that is the name).  At this point you are back to the default background and layout.  Now click the "open folder" button for your layout, browse to it and press ok.  Now click the "open folder" button for you background image, browse to it and press ok.  Once again go to FILE < Save config.... and FILE < Save NMS...  Also make sure your layout and background image are the same resolution ( which i have no doubt you already have).  The only problem you might have is that the Save config and Save NMS are "greyed" out.  To get around this keep changing things one at a time (for example) change your snapshots path and then change it right back to what you had originally.  All until you get the two options to save.  That should do it.  (Too lengthy of a post but I tried to go step by step) If that doesnt work just reply that I am crazy. ;)

Just wack the .lay file in the layout folder, along with the main file.

They should be named:

emu1.lay and emu1-main.jpg

if you have a logo for the emu, call it emu1-logo.jpg

I have my layout working fine and have never used a config utility.

If anyone knows how to set a layout for every emulator without having emu1.lay, emu2.lay, etc. I would appreciate it if you could share it with me. Thanks.

it may not be the best method but i got my background image to show up by making the other sections (game list indicator, game list, emulator name, etc.) transparent using the layout designer.  you'll find it under object properties.

hope this helps
