Cost of small custom cut glass mirror
« on: August 18, 2004, 11:19:33 am »
My wife broke the glass in my driver's door mirror.  It's a Honda Civic, but it has some nonstandard sport mirrors that were on it when I bought the car from some kid.  I need to replace the glass to get an inspection sticker.

I found a local shop that can custom cut the mirror so I can glue it onto the housing (the housing is not damaged, the mirror just fell off and broke).  They want around $40 to do it.

Is that a reasonable cost?

Actually, yeah, that sounds pretty reasonable.  It's extremely custom work, and they have to cut it to an exact fit.

Of course, you can call around, get some more quotes.

Try sites like jcwhitney.com or other car product sites.  You should be able to get the mirror for only like 20$.  Installing it wouldnt be hard either.

Cool, thanks.  I need to have it done quickly, seeing as how the inspection sticker on the car is expired.

Don't they have them in junk yards?

Yeah, you try finding a car in a junkyard with a discontinued m3 mirror.

The mirror will have to be ground to shape, and they'll probably screw up a couple getting it right. Concidering time and materials, I think it's a fair price.

My wife broke the power mirror assembly off my '94 mustang in '95 and it cost $135 to fix it.

It was a stock power mirror.
