Mamewah graphics problem (caused by paintx.dll??)
« on: August 12, 2004, 10:24:06 am »
I've installed Mamewah two times, on two different Wind98SE-computers. Both times Mamewah does start up and does work, except when I'm using the package of lay-outs that can be downloaded on the website.

If I do use the lay-outs and start mamewah, I only see the two logos on a black screen. If i try to open a menu ('2'), only a black box shows, and there are no words visible.

Also, when using the layout-editor, and opening one of the files, it shows a black screen and no 'pretty pictures'.

There are standard VGA-monitors connected to my pc's.

I figure this has something to do with windows fonts, dll-filesor some other resource that Mamewah uses and is not included in the setup-file. Maybe Paintx.dll doesn't work properly?

If I'm using no layout at all, the menu-items and letters are visible, though....

Any help is welcome, since I really want to use this one as a front-end...

By the way, I haven't posted much yet on this forum but the old posts have proven really useful in planning my own arcadeproject!

Sounds like the layouts you're using a messed up in some way...

Try borrowing the background images and make your own layout based around them.

Isn't this the problem where you have to unzip the layouts once you install the layout manager?

Not sure if Minwah changed that or not in the later releases.

I don't think the layouts are messed-up, the files are just the standard files I can download from the mamewahpage; and i downloaded them twice on the two pc's...   Also, I can see the logo's that come in the layouts when starting mamewah, so some part of the graphical engine must be working. But other then that, all text and menus appear black... (I just keep remembering that 'esc' --> '1'  let's me hop back to windows...)

Strange though, that the layout-editor doesn't show the graphics when I open the layoutfiles in it... Even more strange that this problem is exactly the same on two pc's....

This is a bug...basically you just need to point to the background files again...it doesn't actually affect how the layout is displayed in MW itself.

As I said, sounds like something is messed up with the layout (the text is just text).  Either that, or the layout uses a font which you don't have.

Even more strange that this problem is exactly the same on two pc's....

Not strange if the layout is messed up...or if you don't have a required font on both PC's...
