Any standard "CGA" resolution/refresh (15.75KHz) arcade monitor will work in a Centipede.

An Electrohome G07, a Wells Gardner K46xx or K49xx series, a Hantarex MTC900e or 9000, etc...

Even the $65 8Liners replacement chassis and a donated TV tube will work on a Centipede.

Why do you want to replace what you have ?  Is there a problem?

Blurry or screen burn-in? Just swap the tube.
Black lines or waves or crushed screen? Just put in a cap kit on the chassis.
No power/dead... repair or replace the chassis.

$200 to install a $5 cap kit and $1 transistor?   OUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!  :o

Go to 8liners.com and order a replacement 19" arcade monitor and frame.  About $160 shipped if I recall correctly. Plug and play. (well almost... electrically compatable, but need to unmount the old frame and mount the new one)

Or go to Happ and get a new replacement for around $250 shipped, or arcadeshop.com for about the same IIRC.

Brand new chassis and near-new tube on a frame.  Sell your dead monitor on ebay and make about $30 probably.

The replacement monitor should be a "horizontal" (a.k.a. "shelf") mount. Remember that a Centipede uses a horizontal monitor mounted vertically. There are some excellent "Betson-Imperial" (a.k.a. Imperial) monitors that show up on ebay alot brand new and very reasonably priced. Those are good monitors.

If you have your heart set on a Wells-Gardner monitor, I suggest phoning their tech support dept in McCook, ILL and talking to a tech. They have a cross reference guide to cross your Electrohome monitor to a particular equivalent modern Wells-Gardner model. Remember that Wells literally makes HUNDREDS of different models/variations. Wells also sells refurbished monitors at a great price so be sure to ask about  a price on an equivalent refurbed monitor.

I bought a brand new kortek (like the ones on ebay) from www.betson.com for $160 shipped. It didn't even need the isolation transformer and had a switch for + or - sync.

I had to call them and talk to a salesman to do that.  I emailed them from the website, and then talked to the salesman directly. Paid for it over the phone. Had it in 4 days.

But I have a centipede, and you will have to do some re-mounting to get that monitor in, but it will be brand new.  You will need to test it outside of the machine to see which end is up.

If I remember right, the cable will plug from that electohome right into the kortek with NO modifications!

HELP!!

Ok..I got my NEW WellsGardner monitor today for my 1981 vintage Centipede. monitor model:  WGZ1973-H0G539L

However now I have a connector issue.

The Sync cable from the centipede board has only 6 pins but the new board calls for 10 pins???

also, how do I match up the proper pins??  I don't have a schematic from the original board so I have no idea what pin does what???

Can I damage the monitor board by plugging in the wrong sync signal ??

After decoding the Wells model number I see you got a Wells-Gardner Korea 19" k7300 series monitor.

There should be a sticker on the frame that shows the video input connector pinout. If not here it is:

Connector W301

1 video red signal
2 video green signal
3 video blue signal
4 Common ground
5 Vertical positive sync
6 Horizontal positive sync
7 keying tab
8 common ground
9 Vertical negative sync
10 horizontal negative sync

Centipede only generates positive sync so all you have to do is match the red colored wire in the centipede video connector to pin one on the monitor. You are only going to use pins 1 thru 6 in your application. Nothing will be connected to pins 7 thru 10.
