Help configuring MAME cabinet
« on: August 10, 2004, 08:49:54 am »
Thanks for reading this.

I just built my very own MAME cabinet! (Pats self on back).  But, I'm having problems with the software.

My machine has a PIII 1Ghz, 256MB, Windows XP.  Good enough.

I've been using Mame32 .85u on it, and most of everything runs quickly and smoothly (even MK and SF series).  I just ordered an arcade monitor to throw in, but I would like to start using MAME and MameWAH to get that "arcade" feel.

I was testing it out last night.  After spending an hour trying to configure MameWAH, I finally got it to list my ROMS.  When playing Street Fighter 2: Championship edition, the game just crawls.  I tried copies of Mame  for Windows and MamePP (optimized for Pentium) off of www.mame.net.

Why would Mame32 work much better than Mame?  I guess I haven't tried just Mame as a standalone without MameWAH, but I'll try that tonight.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do to get Mame and MameWAH outperform Mame32?

Thanks

Skorpi0wn.

Although it's frowned upon here and probably a waste of resources, I use Mamewah with Mame32 and it runs great! Thats on a 1.1ghz pent w/256MB and winXP also. I haven't noticed any slow downs.

But I just remembered thats with mame v.67 tho...if that makes a diff.

You are probably using two different build types.  Or the configuration is different between them.

The both use the same core, so it will be either configuration or compiler options.

recreate your mame.ini file and recreate it with only the basics will probably do it for you.

I have tried many times to use  Mamewah with command line and never got anything working.
I have mame 32 ver 78 , 79 and 56
