Chrome in Illustrator
« on: August 08, 2004, 06:02:50 pm »
I'm new to Illustrator.  I drew some car racing dashboard gauges.  What is the best way to put chrome rings around the gauges in Illustrator?

Here's what I came up with.  Any ideas on how to make it more  chrome like?

Pixelhugger would be the one to help you out here.

Have you seen these marquees he did?

Illustrator is quite limited to effects like Chrome, since it uses vector instead of raster. Your best bet would be to create your chrome in a very high resolution (400 or 600 DPI) image, and place it into your illustrator file. I would go to Adobe Action Exchage http://share.studio.adobe.com/axQuickSearchSubmit.asp?txt=chrome&allprods=2&submit1.x=14&submit1.y=4 and try to apply one of the cool chrome effects already created.

Unfortunately I don't have a copy of Photoshop.

You can always download their 15 day freee trial of Adobe Photoshop from their website.

Check out this tutorial.

Try some variations of this using illustrator instead of photoshop.  This will give you some slick beveling  effects.  I used variations of these for an internship I did for Richard Petty Enterprises.
