Controls lag in MAME32
« on: August 05, 2004, 12:34:57 pm »
I'm kind of new to this so I figured I'd ask. I just finished my UAII cab and have been running into a constant problem while running MAME32. Gameplay will usually be fine for a few minutes then all of the sudden the controls will lag out and become unresponsive like they're trying to catch up. This happens a lot. I noticed by lowering the sound quality this takes longer to happen but then it eventually does. Here's my system specs:

AMD ATHALON 2200
512MB DDR 2100 FSB333 RAM
WINXP HOME SP1
MAME32 .84u2
AC'97 soundcard (built into MB)
Radeon All-In-Wonder 7500 64MB DDR

4 Player controls wired to 1 - I-PAC2 USB and 2 - PLAYSTATION2USB adapters (I was originally designing the cabinet to output to console systems as well.)

I was thinking maybe adding some ram would help but other than that I'm stuck.

Nope, your problem is priorities.  Make sure high priority is turned OFF in mame.  Also turn off rdtsc.  If that doesn't help then there is another directx application running on your system at the same time fighting for input.  Either that, or a bad driver.... I would look at the playstation adaptors as well.

This problem is hard to track down but it alyways involves directinput getting confused.  It has nothing to do with your system specs.

Such a good hardware you have.
why don't you try a front end with dos version of mame
it will give a best emulation ......

i suggest you to use arcadeos with dmame....
