Q. re DOS/Advancemame/ArcadeOS w/arcade monitor
« on: August 02, 2004, 11:14:40 pm »
ok, I see a lot of posts related, my question is not howto but will this setup do what I want.  I've downloaded Fraggal's boot cd and started reading through the help files.  Seems like an investment of time ahead of me, so I want to make sure it will work.

I'm working on a *vertical* cab and want to run a standard res arcade monitor for about 20-30 classic oldies games.  I've got a free computer, 400MHz Celeron, Dell circa 1999.  Its has no AGP slot, so no ArcadeVGA (does have VGA on motherboard).  No option in bios to soft shutdown windows with power button.  So, I am thinking DOS right?  I can use that and start up/shut down w/o fear of corrupting files?  But, as I am reading, I see a danger of "frying" my monitor if it is not set up correctly.  (You might be thinking I should use a fronted to shut down, but Mamewah will not rotate -- I've tried -- and I've tried Vertiwah, which has a shutdownonesc option but am having trouble with it, besides this computer is very slow to boot into windows so DOS may be the answer anyway).

My question is, can I do it all with the Fraggals' setup:  one button power on (spliced into the computers power button and BITS Limited Smart strip to turn everthing on at once, *including* the arcade monitor), boot directly to DOS 7 instead of Win98, batch file loads ArcadeOS using Advancemame, all without frying the monitor, then push button to shut it all down w/o corrupting filles (so I don't have see scandisk come up ever again!).

thanks,
