General controls
« on: July 31, 2004, 02:23:02 pm »
I was told that to set the same controls for every game (ie. you don't have to set the same controls that you want for each game individually) that you set it under General Controls (Or whatever it is) in the TAB menu... I did that, and it still defaults to the game specific controls in the TAB menu... Am I missing something?

Thanks

For mame .84 and older:
mame will always take the specific game controls over the general.  Did you set that game's controls before?  If not it should be using the general controls.  Try deleting the specific game's cfg file in c:\mame\cfg\.

A better solution, use ctrlr files.  Delete all you cfg files in the c:\mame\cfg folder.  Read on how to use ctrlr files to setup controls.  They work better and are more consistant.

For future release of mame:  ctrlr files might be changed... everything is going to xml
