Auto CP Filtering
« on: August 21, 2002, 11:28:25 am »
How would you set up a front end (Emulaxian or Lazarus) to automatically filter the ROM list. What I want to do is set some switches in my cab that are pressed in certain combinations by tabs on the CP. That way it would automatically list only games that work with the installed CP. I

That's a bad idea (although I think lilwolf is toying with it.)  If the i-pac has a stuck key it pitches a fit like any normal keyboard does.....  I've even had a shorted wire on my ipac lock up my machine before.

The next release of lazarus will have new filter options which allow you  to filter a list by control panel type and screen/driver type though, so that should be helpful.

What I'm trying to do is auto-sense the CP and had thought to use 3 switches to give the possibility of 7 CP's (Plan on 3-4 eventually). Since I am in the printer industry I was thinking of using the paper size board of an old LaserJet II but if I can't run it through the I-Pac I

To bad you didn't go with a MK64.  It already has the ability to use some inputs as ID bits which can be read by software.

That's true but I think the mk has ghosting and blocking problems so all in all the ipac is still the preferred choice for most.

From Ron's own page:

No interference between inputs. No Ghosting and No blocking.

I definitely have not had ANY problems with my MK64.  My CP has 2 joysticks 1 trackball (serial) and 20 buttons and there is definitely no ghosting and I can mash down on all the buttons and have them all read by the sw.

MK's have no troubles at all.

I considered doing that, but since I didn't identify my control panels with key presses, I just make it so you could change control panels (with a key press for next/previous cp).

why?

I had (redoing it now) a 4player control panel and I wanted to switch to a 2 player cabinet when there wasn't 4 players..  So I could play player 1 in the middle.

But I didn't set the filter (good idea though) but instead allowed you to have a config for each game for each control panel.  So setup donkey kong for your 4 player CP... then set it up again for your 4way classic CP so you can play it in both.
