XP Startup & Welcome Screens
« on: August 21, 2002, 06:04:31 am »
Is there any way of changing (customising) XP 's starting & welcome screens?  Like the way you could replace logo.sys in Win98.

I thought this would be handy for cabinet use  ;D

Yes there is, but it isn't as straightforward as it was under 98. If you goto http://www.thetechguide.com/howto/xpbootlogo/ they will explain how it works.

You'll need to be brave and make backup copies of files before attempting it though :)

Thanks for that Bursar, I thought it must be possible ;)

I gave it a try though, and when importing the palette the images didn't change as described.  I don't suppose you've successfully done it??

I haven't actually tried to do it to be honest. I haven't been that bothered about it.

My PC boots up in about 10 seconds, so it isn't on the screen for long :)

Try http://themexp.org/ they have some great boot screens already made that you just have to replace your orginal with.  They have NeoGeo, atari, pac-man, and space invaders, maybe more.  hope that helps
