I wanted a G-mail invite before...for the aforementioned large storage...and now that JamesStJamesJr asks why (and in such a degrading, snide, and overbearing tone

It's just that I read in the news, that Google (gmail provider) has been reading the e-mails and sending spam for what you've been talking about

example:
a: I know, my penis isn't big enough either!

a gets e-mail telling him about a drug that enlarges naturally!

I've never gotten one piece of spam on my gmail account. Not one. I think what bothers people is the fact that google archives all your mail. The paranoid and dillusional fear that google will rule the world by knowing what we talk about in email. I for one never have anything of much use in any of my emails, so I could care less.

From what I understand, they don't spam you with things you e-mail about. They choose what ads to display on the web page based on what you e-mail about. It's like what they do when you do a Google search.

yeah actually, gmail is GREAT.. the way you can archive and organize things is awesome, the interface is great, it's very fast, and it's just all around a great, non cluttered, non ad-overrun e-mail service (unlike hotmail, etc).

I got an invite like a month ago, and I use it regularly, but I have yet to get my invites to give out.. I thought i read somewhere they were gonna be stopping that soon.. guess they already did..

If you've had it that long without invites. you probably won't be getting any. At least not in the near future. Gmail was supposedly stopping invites for a while until they "settled in" so to speak. They then were going to either open up more invites or open up Gmail to the public.

I (and everyone I know) got their invites withing 5 days or so.

Yeah, I have a feeling that it will become publice within a month or two. They seem to be handling the load pretty well, which was their main concern, so it probably won't be long until everyone can sign up.

I got my gmail invite by running across a blog that said he had two extra and email him if anyone wanted it. They are out there. Do some creative googling and maybe you can run across some.

I doubt it. What they're doing is establishing a link between two people. It's all part of their social experiment, ala Orkut. It's preventing any one person from running in and registering 50,000 accounts.

I just got a new load of invites, and I have 3 left. First three PMs get them.

google used to give out so many it was hard to find people to take them all. now they have are getting stingy and it's hard to find any to give away! now that i think back, i wasted quite a few of them

Someone offered me one, but I said "no thanks." I don't see what the big deal is. I mean really, it's just an email account. You can create a thousand hotmail ones if you want. Or, register your own domain and create however many you want.

I wish I got six. The most I've gotten at a time is 1 invite, and I've only gotten two in total now. I guess I dont send enough e-mails or not to enough unique e-mail address.
