PS2 P360 questions
« on: July 28, 2004, 01:39:50 pm »
I finally gave in and got a ps2 a few weeks ago.  Now I need to connect it to my arcade controls.  I use the P360 sticks and it seems like it is  very possible to connect the P360 to psx pads.

I have read through these threads:
http://www.shoryuken.com/forums/showthread.php?s=20ce59f84cb3076ee381673b22dd1f44&threadid=41823&perpage=15&pagenumber=1
http://mywebpages.comcast.net/jdpyle1/controls_playstation.htm
After reading those, I think I have a pretty good idea of what I need to do.

Does anybody know if these pads work with w/ the P360?

If no one know, I may just buy one and give it a go.

Thanks.

As long as you get +5V to the P360 and don't expect any analog movement then yeah it will work.

I've herd of people (snaaake?) having problems with powering the 360 off a hacked console pad...I think he said he couldn't find +5v which was strange.  But I've herd other people say some pads didn't have enough amperage to drive both the pad and the p360.  Anyway, let us know how it works out for you (and which pads you hacked to power it).

P.S.  If you plan to power the p360 externally with a different power source, becarefull you don't bridge the gnd on the external power source with the pads gnd.

You cannot use the standard sony ps2 dual shock with the p360 because it is entirely analog.  When triggered, the P360 brings the pad down to around 0 volts, causing every button to be pressed.  However, you can use this controller with a regular joystick like a Happ Super.

I think Snaaake uses ps1 pads, which conveniently work w/ the ps2.  The ps1 dualshock has been reported to work w/ the P360, but I'd like to avoid them b/c they are 19.99 at gamestop.

I will probably finally get around to this next weekend.  I'll let you know how it goes...

I think you misunderstood what I was saying.  Snaaake's hacked pads he sells has nothing to do with the P360 joystick...but if you want to use ANY hacked pads to power a P360 you may run into these problems.

I bought the pad and connected it this weekend.  Works great.  Probably a good pad for hacking up b/c it is only 5.00 at Best Buy, but it may be a little difficult if you have never done this sort of thing before.  Although there were small exposed circles for each button, the contacts on the pcb were extremely thin.

The power for the p360 is on the top right (orange controller wire) and my multimeter measured it at 4 V.  The ground is on the top left (yellow controller wire).  If anyone is interested in using this pad, let me know and I can post some pictures.

PS2 dualshock2 and pelican universal PCB didnt have 5+ for p360s.Every other pads should work.

Blue wire is 5+ on Dreamcast official pad.
Red wire is 5+ on most Xbox and Ps1 pads.
