And it's not going to be fun setting up new ctrl.cfg files for 4000 games.
Don't have to, I've already made a converter and it works flawlessly.
For the record I didn't "ram" anything down anyone's throat nor did I say offensive things like "bite me" (grow up et, big boys don't toss around insults). I just attacked the issue with sheer logic and pmf and et both responded inappropriately. Tiger you are a prime example of how to respectfully respond with a different point of view. You didn't insult me, you didn't say offsensive things and you brought up valid points which actually build upon the discussion. You guys could learn a thing or two from him.
And for the record et saying making a mame cab isn't about accruacy is about the strangest thing I've ever heard. If we didn't want accuracy then we'd all be playing those williams classics discs on the playstation. I mean they are close enough and shoot if we don't care about accuracy so who cares if we are using a playstation controller. These bugs generally aren't minor they are major and quite noticable, as they always are to any true arcade fan. And I'm hoping we don't have a lot of casual arcade players making mame cabs as they probably don't get a lot of use.
I agree with you though tiger, sometimes it's wise to hold off a few versions as they break something. But there is a difference between holding off 4 or 5 versions and holding off 10 or 20. Imho save states isn't one of em.... There weren't savesates on real arcade games, I've personally never used em. However if your favorite game got broken then yeah it's a good reason to hold off. There are always exceptions to every rule, but in general mamer's should be keeping up with the mame builds.
It's not even an opinion, it's just common sense. Not using the very latest version I can see because somtimes it's buggy for a version or two, but to use a different analogy would you keep using a 2 year old version of a piece of freeware when a newer, better version was released?
