What to do with Dead Projection TV

I have this wonderful 60" Mitsubishi Projection TV that has died.

It was a good friend, and is sorely missed by my family. We attempted to have it fixed, but I'm sorry to say the surgeon told us he tried his best, but our good friend has passed on.

My son has stopped crying now that we bought a new 16x9 TV, but I don't want my old friend to be dishonored.  After all, he entertained us for well over 10 years and loved being with us.

Does anyone have a good practical use for a big screen cabinet with the full lenticular screen?  

Any and all ideas would be appreciated.

If not, we will escavate a hole and order a tombstone.  I don't want to throw "Mitsui" in the trash with the common TV's. He was a my best friend :<

My brother has an RCA Projection TV on that's been around for atleast 10 years.  I'm waiting for him to get a new one so I can get his....

They certainly don't make them like they used too.

My projection TV is on the way out also.  After some 'slight' burn-in from a particular video-game, I'm in the market for a new TV.  A 50" 16x9 high-def LCD prejection TV is what I am looking at (NO burn-in supposedly), but unsure about about the quality of LCDs.  They look so pixel-y and jagged to me.  Any suggestions from anyone here?  I'm sure that people here will have some good suggestions from experience.  

As for my old TV - that will probably be going to a friend who has no quarrel over some burn-in.  That's probably just because he and his roomate don't even have a TV.

Analogue signals will look really bad as they (LCDs) bring out all the imperfections of the signal. Macroblocking (on MPEG2 broadcasts) will be there for all to see.

Standar Digital TV looks OK but HD is killer on those things. DVDs look great on them through Component but will look even better if you get a DVD player with DVI-D. Assuming your LCD has one as well (Which it should).

Woah!! That is an awesome idea.  Strip all electronics, replace the screen with glass, waterproof it and voila.  Awesome looking fishtank.  I'm thinking of my 55 gallon, and a 60" TV would probably be at least 100 gallons.... probably more.

Yeah, except that a projection TV cabinet is designed to contain 50-100lb and 100gallons of water weighs a damn lot more than that!  You think they're prone to tipping over as a TV?  You'll have to add sand into the base or something to keep it stable.  By then you're talking about a HEAVY ass tank.

I don't think the MDF would hold that much stress.

It would make an attractive shelf for a small one though.

Yeah, except that a projection TV cabinet is designed to contain 50-100lb and 100gallons of water weighs a damn lot more than that!  You think they're prone to tipping over as a TV?  You'll have to add sand into the base or something to keep it stable.  By then you're talking about a HEAVY ass tank.

Yeah, I think 1 gallon of water is 8LBS, so it would be around 800LBS!!!

Maybe put a smaller one in there a put some kind of bezel around it, maybe with a cool steel looking design with rivots, like its holding the talk in place in the center of the opening.

You could use it as a shelf, but you can put in MDFs as Supports below it.

I was thinking about using it for an entertainment center.

Make a door and Just put a picture of a movie on the front.

I have a friend who wants to use it as a target.  I want to preserve the dignity of my TV.

I dunno if this is what you've got, but I remember someone somewhere saying to use a Fresnel lens (like on big screens) as your glass/plexi replacement on your cab to make your monitor appear bigger...now, I can't vouch for it personally, but since "she's" dead, perhaps it's time to think about organ donation...perhaps save a few projects that were less fortunate than her...restore or give life to something less fortunate than her...don't you think that's what she would have wanted?

Did you check her Driver's License to see if organ donor was checked off on there?  

I'm sure someone who doesn't have wheels would appreciate the gift...maybe they never even had a chance to roll

I like the fishtank idea...same thing I thought when I saw the title of the thread. Just make it thin (the water will give the illusion of greater depth anyway...and the fish won't care...fish are stupid). Add some cool lighting behind it and you have something unique. Remember to add balast to the base...the thing will be top/front heavy.

a bezel...then maybe add a frankenpanel to it...some graphics with a plexi overlay...a Tron stick...Star Wars yoke and...and...what was the question?
