Any way to do this in mamewah or with standard mame?
« on: July 26, 2004, 01:03:34 pm »
Okay folks, I'm tired....tired of having to touch my keyboard inside of my cabinet to bypass those "ok" screens.  I realize that the standard build of mame has two flags inside of it's ini to disable two of the warnings however, it doesn't help me with all of them.  I don't care if the game doesn't emulate graphics or sound correctly if it runs ;).  So the question is this, how do I use mamewah to disable all OK screens?  If its not possible with the standard build of mame, what build lets me do it and how do I configure mamewah to do it?  It its a mamewah limitation, how do I get around it?

Thanks all!

I'm in the same boat as this guy...

I've taken care of the warnings and exit confirmations for my actual MAME program, but when I use MAMEWAH or 3D ARCADE they show up again.

Thoughts?

Moving the joystick left and right will get around this.
It is not possible to disable these types of messages on the "official" MAME build

Soory but you're wrong ...  ;D

Here's how:

Create de "mame.ini" file (if you don't have it already) using "mame -cc"

- Edit the "mame.ini" file
- Find the line:
### Mame CORE misc options ###

- Find the lines:
skip_disclaimer         0
skip_gameinfo           0

- Change them to:
skip_disclaimer         1
skip_gameinfo           1

- Save the file

Et voil

Even with the ini changes, you will still see some game screens, specifically bad dump msgs and the like (not 100% emulated, etc etc)

For the most part though, the ini changes will get rid of most.  For the rest just hit left right on the joystick like was mentioned.
first off your and idiot

Man I love the internet, haha.

Well, then I'll have to refer back to another question I asked,

"its not possible with the standard build of mame, what build lets me do it and how do I configure mamewah to do it? "

NoNameMAME had skip_gamewarnings and skip_baddumps options also...but I believe NoName is not in development at the current time.  AFAIK no other builds do this (I could be wrong tho), so hit left/right...which leads me on to a slightly related question:

Is the left/right skip OK trick supposed to work with whatever controls are mapped to P1 left/right??  I thought it was, but I've noticed it only works for me using cursor left/cursor right, regardless what keys are mapped to P1 left/right...just wanting confirmation, or whether this has changed recently due to the new input stuff (?)

I have the same problem Minwah.  I have to press left/right on my keyboard while my joystick is mapped to different keys.  Thats what prompted me to ask my question.

Yeah I guess it's not a big issue for most since cursors are almost always used...just I have an analog control panel with no digital sticks.

Another alternative is to make your own build to skip those bits...I used to do this, it's not too difficult even for a non-C-programmer :)

I actually compiled with the .84 source and Alan K's mame patches http://home.earthlink.net/~alank2/mame/custommame.htm.  Let's you get rid of all types of warnings along with other useful features and works perfect with Mamewah.

Hey Wizard of DelRay, I was considering sending this as a PM however, other people may be interested in the same questions.

I read your customame compliations and was considering using it when I got a chance today or tomorrow.  Reading your site has prompted me to ask a few more questions.

About the skip or speed up frames, can you do this for each individual game or is a global change for all games?  If you can skip X amount of frames for each game, how much of a pain is to do?  Do I have to write an .ini for each one?

Secondly, about the volume gain/decrease functions, again the same questions, can you do this for each individual game or is a global change?  I have a volume knob on my cabinet and its tedious to adjust for each game, if I could make a change in a .ini one time instead of having to screw with the volume.  MKII for example is ridiculously quiet and if I exit and enter another game I get blasted, hahaha.

Consider me a mame moron and break it down what I need to do into the simpliest steps if you don't mind describing them.

Thanks for your input and I wait for your response!

Ah, you give me too much credit.  This is someone else's work.  I just used their patches and compiled the source code.  You would probably want to PM Tiger-Heli as it was his post that led me to Alan K's page (and he probably knows a lot more about it than I do).  You can find the original post here:

http://www.arcadecontrols.org/yabbse/index.php?board=3;action=display;threadid=22201

But to answer your questions, yes, the frame skip is game specific so you would need an .ini for each game you use it for.  As for the the volume gain, it is something you edit in the mame.ini to increase the overall volume if you think games are just a bit too low.  What I like most about it is that it will automatically reduce the volume of a game if it's about to clip (Galaga for example).

Just wondering, have you gone into the test menu in MK2 and adjusted the volume?  I had that problem too on Killer Instinct until I saw that it had a volume adjustment in the test menu.  Hope this helps.

How do you create a game specific ini? What needs to be in it?

As for MKII, i'll check those settings.  Its probably something fixable in there.

To create a game specific ini, make a copy of your mame.ini and copy it to your ini folder (create one if you don't have one).  Rename the copied file to the game you want to use it for (e.g. dkong.ini for Donkey Kong).  Do this for whatever games you want.  That's it.

iamnaeth:  I was messing around with MK2 and I noticed something.  Even if you set the volume high in the operator menu (F2), when you play you have to adjust it every time.  The way I got around this was by editing an mk2.ini and adjusting the gainvolume to something like 28.00 and having the gainvolume_adjust set to 1.  I left the volume in the operator menu at the lowest level and it auto adjusts the volume for me every time (so as not to clip and sound like crap).  Hope this helps.
