Discharging B/W monitor--the same?
« on: July 26, 2004, 07:52:05 am »
I have a B/W monitor in the space invaders deluxe cab that I just bought--I have heard that discharging B/W monitors is different than color but never paid much attention cause i figured " bah, when am I going to have a B/W monitor?"  well now I do and am curious as to whether the process is the same?

Also regarding B/W monitors--what did they typically have for inputs--obviously R,G,B are not present so what signals are present?
its better to not post and be thought a fool, then to whip out your keyboard and remove all doubt...

I don't know why discharging it would't be the same.  Perhaps Ken or MonitorGuru will shed some light.

As for inputs, it's got ground and sync.

Color or B&W, it makes no difference. All monitors need to be discharged and they discharge the same way.

The inputs on the main connector on a B&W monitor are shown in the manuals you can download at mikesarcade.com but typically are 120 volt ac power, frame ground, signal ground, signal (consisting of composite video and sync on the same pin), and if fitted there is a +5 volt power supply/speaker amplifier board that also uses the main connector.

BTW, you can feed the video out from a VCR, video camera, DVD player, etc to the video input of a B&W arcade monitor.
