I'd like to use the TV out on my ATI card to get signal to the arcade monitor.  Basically I'm trying to avoid buying an ARCADEVGA card from Ultimarc.

Is it possible to use the tV out on such equipped cards?  or should I just buy the ArcadeVGA card and be done with it?  I'd hate to spend more money than I have to.

I have a 25" WG K7000(?) Arcade Monitor, it came with the 4 cart Neo-Geo cabinet that I'm using.  If that makes a difference.  I heard that these monitors are terrific to use in a Mame cabinet, thus the reason for getting the Neo-Geo cabinet (with everything inside except for the Neo-Geo itself).  The cab was a steal at $150, as it also came with a Beast-Busters cabinet that had everything except for the PCB!  I've since restored the Beast-Busters cabinet to it's original glory and enjoy playing it with my 5 year old son :-)
I'm off on a tangent though, any help with the TV out VS ArcadeVGA would be very much welcomed.

  thanks all!

OR

Could I just use a VGA cable from an old monitor, separate the wires and connect them to the inputs on the WG k7000 25" chassis for RGBsync, etc?
I would be concerned about the refresh rate, I think I saw some TSR's and such for that.  I think there was even something for Windows XP to make things a bit easier switching emulators.
I will be running MAME, and perhaps Daphne once I aquire a couple laserdiscs from E-bay of the games (could I purchase the PC version of lets say Dragon's lair and be legal running it on daphne?)

  thanks again all!

TV Out is color composite. You definitely don't want to do that as that is the second to the lowest quality video signal you can get (the lowest is a RF cable, e.g. cable tv).

An ATI card, depending on model, should support most of the frequencies that Mame needs.

However you will want to use AdvanceMame not regular Mame in order to produce enough of the frequencies needed for each different game.

So I should be able to use the ATI card instead of the ArcadeVGA card?  Cool :-)

I assume that I'll have to get their VGA amplifier cable though?  That's not too bad, it's like $19 or so

What about booting up and the BIOS screen?  Do I have to worry about burning out my monitor during boot?  or will I be able to set the ATI card to 15khz refresh rate and it will boot using that refresh rate?

  thanks for the help!

If you get a J-PAC (which has an amp built in) it'll only allow a 15khz signal to go to your monitor... You'll see the bootup stuff without it cooking your monitor (but it is vertically split).

A J-PAC is a wise investment. It'll save you a lot of time hooking up your controls.

Is the Neo-Geo cabinet a Jamma cab?  I didn't think it was.   Or does it even matter if it is or not, can I just use the video functionality of the J-Pac?
