War in Iraq (R.I.P. Cpl. D. L. Rice)
« on: July 18, 2004, 11:39:40 pm »
 :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(
I found out today that my highschool best friend died Wednesday in Iraq...  I feel sorry for his mother, brother, and sisters...

From www.wcco.com: http://wcco.com/siteSearch/local_story_200100556.html

"Cpl. Demetrius Lamont Rice, 24, of Ortonville, died Wednesday in the rollover near Talafar, 45 miles from Mosul in northern Iraq, the Department of Defense said Friday.

His vehicle went off the road and rolled down an embankment.

Rice was the ninth Minnesota soldier killed in Iraq.

He joined the Army in April 2001 and was a member of the 2nd Infantry Division based in Fort Lewis, Wash., Army spokesman Sgt. Maj. J.C. Mathews said."

I'm a little sad, but he was braver than I ever'll be.  I am proud to have known him.

I'm sorry man, I know exactly how you feel.  I lost a friend in Iraq as well.  We used to see each other every day for like 7 years straight.  I hadn't talked to him in 4 years or so when I read about him in the paper.  Weird thing is that I found his phone number in a bunch of papers in my room a week or two before.  Let's hope every other soldier over there comes home safe, and QUICKLY :(

He has a wife and a three year old too.

I saw that on Kare 11 last night. Sorry to hear that. I hope his family will be ok. Hopefully people will help them out if/when they need it.

God bless Demetrius Lamont Rice.  Thanks to him for serving to keep freedom alive.

Man, that's freaky, it sounds exactly like my situation.  Hadn't heard from him in about 3 years, then heard the news from my mother who saw it on TV.  Found his email address in my room THE SAME DAY...  :'( .  Read some articles online, then the paper.  We were friends since 8th grade and even lived together in college.  So he was like a brother to me...
