Donkey Kong Monitor

Hello, I am new here so please excuse any ignorance/noobisms.

The other day I acquired an original Donkey Kong arcade machine. There are a few minor flaws, but most of them deal with the outside of the cabinet. Anyways on problem that really irks me is my monitor screwing up. On the left side of the screen there is about 1 inch of the monitor that is blank. The rest of the screen works fine.

I have already tried changing the horizontal alignment and that did not work. Nothing will appear in that 1 inch area(from top to bottom). If anyone knows what the problem might be please help me out.

You need a cap kit and someone to install it for you if you haven't worked on  monitors before.

Donkeykong  usually had a Sanyo 20-EZV. But you should open it up and double check.

Typical Nintendo Sanyo 20-EZ problems.. vertical scrunch (remember your monitor iin a DK s twisted 90 degrees counter clockwise as compared with a horizontal monitor/tv set, so vertical to the monitor is horizontal to your eyes)  Therefore you adjusting horizontal on the monitor actually moves the screen up and down.  You would want to adjust vertical size/position instead to get YOUR screen to move left/right.

I bet it's not really missing the stuff, its just all the print for the first 1" of screen is scrunched into the first few lines that are there.

A standard cap kit will fix this.  There are 2 cap kits available. One has an extra 10 or so caps that may or may not need to be changed. If this is your only problem the standard kit will work, but it is a pain to remove the chassis from a sanyo monitor so you may as well replace all the caps at once and get 20 more years of life out of it.

I dont know what Zanen charges for shipping.

With the proper research do you think that is something I should try on my own(replacing the caps). Or is it way beyond a beginners ability?

Nintendo Sanyo monitors are not the easiest to do. Best let a professional fix it for you. Remember, if you attempt to do things yourself and you screw it up most professional won't touch it or if they do then it'll co$t you.
