« on: August 16, 2002, 06:33:30 pm »
Hey Guys,
I got 2.3 and tried the music thing to no avail...if anyone knows how to get it to work right let me know, I would appreciate that. I took an mp3 playlist... named it background.m3u stuck it in the themes dir. Tried to edit the m3u list and put in the C: instaead of just \Lazarus\mp3\1.mp3... but its not working..any help is appreciated.

Suggestion...maybe in the future have all the options in a nice GUI???? just an idea for retards like myself.

Thanks
Jim

The file should be on the individual theme's directory. For example, it should be in C:\lazarus\themes\lazarus, not just c:\lazarus\themes as I seem to understand from you post.
It's pronounced hacker.

Background music is still beta, it doesn't work on every mahine yet.  I told you before you had it setup correctly, it's just not going to work for you until the next release.  Calm down man it'll be alright. ;)

If you want a gui for configuration you better be sucking up to sirpoonga.  From what I understand he is working on a setup wizard for lazarus.  In a perfect world I would have the time and desire to make the setup easier but I go by the >p< method of tech support.  I only do it until it takes the fun out of the coding or it begins to piss me off.

Making a wizard would take the fun out of it since, it's not a feature I need personally and it would be unnecessary work.  Sorry, your just going to have to deal for now.

Hey,
OK I will anxiously await the next release! ehhehe...I just thought that since this was turning into a great frontend why not make it simple and professional as hell! (eventually) so that anyone from novice to programmer could use it and tweak it to their amazement. Also Howard are there any plans to make it open source or have others contribute to enhance it and help tweak it???

Keep Up the good work
Jim

Wait till sirp and some of my other loyal patrons get their utilities ready.  (I've been sent some wip's of various dat generators and configuration utilites and they are all top notch.)  When they are all done there will  be a utility to help you through almost every stage of setup, including checking to make sure you put in a valid entry for a setting.

I don't think lazarus itself will be open source.  It's my baby and I'm scared of the thought of other
people mangleing it up.  However, the wrappers and other utilites I have no problem sharing code.   I would, however, like to keep some control over the spin-offs so once I release the source it will have a liscense agreement similar to the following:

The code cannot be used on a profit-based program.

The source code of any derived projects must be posted along with the new program.

Any project made must be sent to me (hey I've got to get something out of it.)  And I must be allowed to post it on the lazarus page if I think it falls in line with our style of utilites.

Now if there is still interest in getting the source after all of that junk then let me know and I'll start building a source code library.

Hey,
I am glad to see your allowing others to have input and utilities for it. I also am glad that you take our input and incorporate it into the program (as not all of us are able to code!).. I do think its smart what you said, that you will review things and make sure they fit the Lazarus mold, thats a great idea..this way it can be tested and not be filled with useless junk. I like the fact that your making a easy setup feature too! thats cool..any time frames? do u have a time frame (estimate) of where the project is going to go..like steps?? just for info.....

Cant wait for the next release!

Well I can't speak for the others as they are just working on their respective utilites whenever they feel like it, but lazarus itself and it's wrappers are developed in sporatic bursts.

When my brain is working I can make a lot of progress in a day or so, but when it's not it can take several days to get motivated enough to even work on them.

I'm not working on ANY of the helper utilties as everyone else is doing a great job without me, I just have to give them any needed info about configuration options.

Right now I'm working with >p< to make 3d arcade and lazarus inter-compatible.  This is extremely long term, but the idea is to make it to where you can setup one and it will automatically setup the other for you.

Even further down the road we want to make it to where you can run both on the same cab..... your cab will boot up and you will be prompted with a menu of which to launch.  You can go in, play a few games, and then exit to the main menu.  If you go into the other fe, it will automatically be in the same position on the list that the previous fe was at, with the same color scheme/skin loaded, ect.  This is all planning right now, but it's kind of fun to try and we will have a great setup if we can pull it off.
