Touchscreen, dual screen jukebox
« on: August 16, 2002, 11:09:46 am »
After reading through the Jukebox/MP3 forum I've decided I want a dedicated jukebox. However, my programming skills are slightly lacking...

I know exactly what I want, though. Maybe someone else out there thinks this is a good idea. A duel-screen system with a smaller touch screen built into the control panel of an arcademachine for song selection and the larger monitor for viuals, videos, song stats, etc.

I'm thinking the best way to do this would be WinAMP because I'm imagining a custom program would be considerably difficult and WinAMP visual plugins are already seperate from the player itself. The downside is that WinAMP as a player makes a lousy jukebox. It's not full-screen, the playlist system sucks for actual song selection, etc.

Since touchscreens run on mouse drivers, any full-screen MP3 program with good mouse support would work. The hard part is the second screen. Anybody got any suggestions? Anybody want to build this software with me?

My second (less favorite) option would be to just build a single touch0screen system. Much simpler, and probably easier to code, but not nearly as impressive or fun...

There's already something available and it's open source you would just have to make it dual display.

www.oscarcontrols.com/dragon

go checkout the dragonator jukebox...
it's still a tad raw but a good start and it's open source :D

another option (just to keep your options open) is what I plan on putting in my next car.

That obviously will be a single touchscreen.  But I found a winamp plugin that is pretty decent.  Goto winamp.com and look for Triplex3.  It is a decent looking visual, AND you can control winamp from the visual.  The controls hide, until you move the mouse, the the controls appear.  Unfortunaely the buttons are a tad small so fo fingers it isn't that great.  But I'm searching for another plugin that does the same type of thing.
