Yes and no. I'm outside of Mooresville, which isn't that far away.

I'm from Charlotte.  Do you ever go to the auctions in Winston-Salem?  There is one coming up August 14th.

Actually I stopped in Asheville the other day.  I was going white water rafting in Topton.  I went to a really cool McDonalds.

I've been to these auctions before.  I''ve never been to any others so I don't have anything to compare it to.  I had a great time and ended up buying a converted Sega Frogger cocktail table for $150 and a Twin Joker flipperless pinball for $25.  There is a 10% fee for people who arn't in the arcade business but other than that the people are pretty nice.  It is an amazing experience.  There are hundreds maybe thousands of games to play.  Take a look at the pictures from previous auctions at the site I posted earlier.  I would definately go sometime if you have never been.

Dunno at this point, I'd like to but I should probably finish up some of the cabs I already have before buying any more. ;)

The ads....just way too cool that they adjust to the page content.

Let's see if I can swing a little advertising mojo:

I used to live in Durham, only 3 blocks from Duke University and it's campus.  I worked ~ Research Triangle Park.  I also did work @ UNC for Tarheel football and basketball games.  I was at a Milwaukee Brewers game yesterday and met a lady from Morehead City.

I honestly thought this was a post from a few days ago.  I just searched off the keyword "Charlotte".

OOPS!!  Maybe I should use the search feature before making a post next time!  I am considering going to the Winston auction if I can convince my best friend/arcade buddy to go with me....we live in Wilmington, but he is from Dobson...not too far from Winston.  Maybe if we all have the BYOAC hats, it will be easy to spot each other.

Heh, I'm your buddy?  Really?  Awwwww....

Yeah, I know the main roads in W-S.  So, as long as it's on one of 'em, I should be able to find it.  The pics on the site advertising this event look neat.  Tons of classic machines all lined up along the walls.  Cooooooool!

I went to one of these last year (just to see what it was like).  Quite a few classics, many new(er) machines,  lots of classic boards (they sold like 15 Ms. Pac-Man boards).

I might be going to the one in August, but the person who was suppose to join me backed out so I'm not sure.  I have never bought a machine before, so I am worried about successfully securing it to the pickup truck I am borrowing.

That's why I suggest any BYOAC members who are going to the Aug 6 auction should get together....

1. we won't be bidding against each other unknowingly.

2. we can help each other out if needed.

3. The auction vets can look after us auction newbees to make sure we don't screw up to bad.

If still on the fence on wether I'll be able to attend or not....

If I do go I'm not likely going to bid at this one. I'll just be going to check it out.

I'm game for joining forces.  As I said I have been to one before but never bought a machine.  This time I intend to buy my first (and probably only) machine.  I have been dreaming of my own arcade machine for years and I am ready to fulfill my dream.

OK...anybody have any idea just how long this auction will last?  I know it depends on the quantity, but a ballpark figure would be nice...maybe you have been and can remember how long it went til.
Thanks

No plans to go to this one, I'd probably end up buying something and I've no room for the cabs I already have. ;)

How long the auction depends entirely on when they start, and how much stuff is there, and whether they have more than one barker working at a time. First W-S auction I went to started around 10:00 am and finished about 9:30 that night. The next had more stuff there, started later, yet finished two hours earlier as they ran two barkers and worked both sides of a row at the same time.

One suggestion I'll make.  Take a cooler full of your favorite beverage, snacks, sandwiches, and some reading materials. If you're after MAMEable cabs, those tend to be sold pretty late and you'll be there all day. The food there is marginal and overpriced, and there's going to be at least a few hours of the auction where they're selling stuff you have no interest in. Use those times to go outside and take a break.  Oh, and wear comfortable shoes. 8+ hours of standing on concrete is hard on your feet.

Tail, thanks for the info....sounds like it makes for a long day!  Are there any arcade buy/sell type of events that you know of, whereit is sort of a flea market type of situation?  Since I am mainly looking for marquees, I would rather be able to browse, buy, then leave when I want sort of thing.

It is a long day, if you're there for the junk cabs. But then if whatever you want is auctioned earlier, you can pay, load up and haul your stuff home when you're ready to go. Marquees would be auctioned with the miscellaneous stuff at the start of the auction, but they'd be auctioned in lots so you couldn't pick or choose which ones you wanted individually.

As to an arcade flea market, closest I can think of would be a run up to Coin Op Warehouse. Their web page says they'll be there every day clearing the place out till the 15th, so you could probably come home with a trunk full of marquees for a little money.
