Easiest frontend
« on: July 10, 2004, 04:08:23 pm »
I have a P2 266hmz puter. I have a jpac and need to finish wiring the JAMMA plus buttons. (how is DOS going to detect the JPAC...it will look like regularkeyboard inputs right?)The computer has a small harddrive and is running windows 95. When I turn on the computer I want it to automatically open MAME/frontend. I need to know what the best software it use and exaclly how to install it. Also if possible I want to be able to play NES and maybe GBA games.

I would get Win95 to boot into DOS...IIRC you edit msdos.sys and set BootGUI=0 (or use TweakUI from within Windows).

Then use an old version of DOS MAME (0.36final similar), and ArcadeOS.  For NES you can use Nesticle which I believe can be launched from ArcadeOS also.

As walls83 said, forget GBA...

That only happens if you have sound on... otherwise it is speedy

I would have just got Win95 to boot into DOS, as I said before.  I guess you could install DOS 6.22 or something, I don't know anything about FreeDOS.

The info is all out there, do some searching.  These might help: http://easymamecab.mameworld.net/ & http://www.mameworld.net/easyemu/

I'm not trying to be rude here, but this whole software forum is practically dedicated to front ends and how to set them up properly.  Do some reading and you'll find your own answers.
