Starting new cab tomorrow (Arc-Eden)
« on: July 09, 2004, 05:15:02 am »
Hi all

Since frequenting this site and these boards I have been blown away by the sheer quality and variety of all your cabs, control panels etc. You lot are some bloody talented individuals!  In addition, you guys are probably the most helpful group of peeps I have come across on any message boards, ever!.  It's a pure pleasure to visit this site and every single time I'm here I find out something new.  I'm starting work on my own cabinet this saturday and rest assured I'll be taking the obligatory pics to gain feedback.  I have to confess though I feel that I'm cheating in a way as I got the plans from the mameroom (www.cybertechdesign.net/mameroom).  Also I'm basing my control panel on GSXRMovistars EXCELLENT design (thanks for the help Andy).  I simply cannot wait to get going and despite numerous digs from my wife (bless her) Im certain she'll be pleased once it's done.   Most of the hard work is done as I don't have to spend a long time tweaking designs and can jump straight in.  I can't wait...  Once it's all done I'll be compiling a diary as a lot of you have done and will be plonking it on my site here: www.thirteenth-planet.com

Btw - The cocktail cabinets on here are also absolutely stunning and I get exceedingly jealous every time I see them (very desirable machines).  Think that will be my next project, but let's wait and see how this one goes first... Think I'd be tempted to go for 'real' wood on that project...anyone recommend anything.  lol...have'nt even started 'this' one and already I'm thinking about the next one :)

Thanks again guys

Craig

welcome to the blood/money sucking habit!  its the best!!! 8)  anyway, just a tip if you planning in taking pictures of your progress.  i thought i took a lot of pictures, but i took a lot of pics of the outside of the cab and what it looked like.  thats all well and good, but for newbies who have never even read anything on this board, seeing something like that will make them ask a lot of questions about "simple" stuff.  if you know what you are doing, take pictures of things that took you a while to do, and zoom on the small stuff.  i know there are several projects out there with great pics, but seldom will you find the complete tutorial type package with tons of pics of even the simplest things.  just a suggestion take it or leave it. ;D

anyway, good luck!  ill leave you with some safety tips...

1.  don't drop mdf on your big toe unless you have plenty of bandages

2.  don't cut with an exacto knife/box cutter with the blade pointing toward your right calf unless you are on a hardwood floor so cleanup will be nice and easy

3. don't be a retard ::)

It is not possible to take too many pictures.  I took more than 300 of my construction process and there are still times I'd wished I had taken more of some particular cabinet detail.

Good luck.
