I have a question now Dartful, is this like 'Defensive Driving' you're taking - which reduces your liability insurance and takes points off your licesnce? I don't know if they have that available in NY state but it would be cool to do this online as opposed to travelling to a classroom.
Illinois doesn't have points, which is a good and bad thing. If you get a ticket, you can take this 4 hour class and you get put on supervision. If you don't get a ticket in the next 6 months it gets taken off your record. If you do get a ticket, you get to take an 8 hour class, and you get put on supervision again for another 6 months, if you get three tickets within 12 months you lose your license for 12 months. If this was run properly it would be better to have your points system, but since it's not, we're better off. The counties don't talk to each other or talk to the insurance companies. This is my fourth ticket, in 12 months. I've had to go to three 4 hour classes, this is the first time they gave me the option to take the class online.
If I can drive below the speed limit for the next 6 months I'll have a clean record.
(if not I'll just pay the fine and take another class)
A friend of mine got a DUI, and asked his lawyer how much hirer his insurance is going go up, his lawyer told him if he doesn't switch insurance companies or tell his insurance company about it, it wont go up at all. It's been three years, and his insurance has gone down, because as far as they know, he's been a safe driver.
