MAME Config Menu questions?!?! HELP
« on: July 08, 2004, 12:18:31 am »
Three final control questions/issues:

1. OOOPS!! I accidentally deleted the 1SW1 (player 1 button 1) control in the config menu and now I can't get it programmed correctly. I hit ENTER to change the control back to L-CTRL but every time I hit L-CTRL it enters LEFT CTRL RIGHT CTRL as the entry and now 1SW1 won't work?!?!?! How do I enter it as LEFT CTRL only?

???

2. Is there any way for me to program 2SW7 as ENTER in the MAME config menu? I tried entering the shift controls for ENTER (P1 + Left arrow) and it doesn't want to work for this button. I really don't want to use the shift controls and want a desidnated admin button for enter. 2SW7 is an extra IPAC slot. How to I get this button to act as the ENTER button? Do I have to use the IPAC program software because I really don't want to if I don't have to. Can this be done in the config menu?

3. Similar to above. Is there any way for me to program 1SW7 as ESC in the MAME config menu? I tried entering ESC as the control for this button in the config and it doesn't work. Is there a way I can type in the config menu? How to I get this button to act as the ESC button?

Thanks in advance! These are the last 3 control issues and I'm all set!!!

PS: If it matters, I'm using MAMEWAH as the frontend

1. Don't pause the game.  MameFAQ something.

2.  Two ways.
  • a) Program IPAC's 2SW7 to ENTER in IPAC (see ipac howto).
  • b) Remap "UI Select" in mame to whatevery your IPAC 2SW7 outputs (UI Select is usually mapped to "ENTER")
Sounds like you want b), which is sort of backwards of what you're asking, but what you really mean. ;)

3. Same as 2., but you want to remap mame's "UI Cancel".

Not sure what you mean here...?

Let me see if I get this. 2SW7 is defaulted to J with the IPAC. You're saying that if I change the UI Select to J then 2SW7 will act as the enter button? I'll give that one a try. Thanks!

3. Same as 2., but you want to remap mame's "UI Cancel".

I'll try it...

Don't pause the game when you configure controls.
This is also a good reason to use ctrlr files to setup your controls :)
