WG 27" monitor on sale, any good?
« on: July 06, 2004, 04:13:40 pm »
Happ is having a sale on a model # WGM2792-UOTS48C, Happ's part number 49-5203-10.  Does anyone have any information on this monitor?  I searched Happs for their part number and could not find anything.  I also searched the WG site for the model number and could not find anything there as well.  At $450 this seems like a good price, but I am not sure of its capabilities.

Thanks for any info.

Edit: After looking at the listing again it does not say anything about it being a D9200.  Changed subject line accordingly.
Edit: Removed reference to D9200 in message body.

Here's what the Wells number you listed decodes to:

WGM=Wells Game Monitor
2792= 27" D9200
U= universal frame mounting

the rest of the numbers I don't know

Apparently nobody knows anything about this monitor, except what Ken has posted.  Oh well, I'll find out more about it when it shows up next week.   ;)

There is a lot of info on D9200s here.   I heard that they can be good (15-31Khz), which allows up to 640x480 (and 800x600 in some cases).   Additionally, they can display 15Khz and 24Khz modes natively, which allows MAME games to run at their native res when used with an ArcadeVGA or other card that can output 15Khz.

The drawback is that some people have reported a high rate of early failure with this model.

Although something to keep in mind is that the high rate of failure usually goes hand in hand with people running it at resolutions it wasn't meant to be used at (aka 800x600).

According to the tech at WG the newer models are rated for 800x600.
He said that the monitor should have no problems displaying any resolution that the monitor does not report out of range errors.

I still keep mine in 640x480....

Later,

I got the monitor today.  Now I just have to wait until my ArcadeVGA card shows up, which should be later this week.

It's all coming together. :)

From the notes I've passed with people that have lots of WG 9200 installs, the best thing is to keep it cool. Putting a fan pointed at the board and an exhaust fan in the cab is a good idea. The more the better. Personally, I'm going to be using dual 120mm fans on the board and 2-4 exhaust fans on the cab (2 low, two high). Vantec stealth fans are great for this; nice and quiet.

Granted, shipping has and may still be a problem for these monitors, and I don't have a great solution. Other than driving to their warehouse for a pickup or a distributor that will guarantee it will ship properly (Happ is on notice to get these things shipped properly), your options are limited on this one.

Any news on this monitor? You could test it with your regular VGA card, you know, no need for the ArcadeVGA. Any chance you can test it with a regular card at regular VGA refresh rates? (assuming it supports them)

Thanks,

i have a d9200 and a arcadevga and i will go on record to say that it seems like a great combo. it works flawlessly with my mame machine. On one note though as this maybe an isolated problem but not quite sure, i hooked up the monitor via the cga way for my golden tee golf 99 pcb, which happens to be in with the mame machine, and without the vga cable hooked in with the molex connector the video would jump a bit. only at the top of the screen would it be really bad but then it would randomly jump the screen. Also when vga connected with the molex there is a slight buzz sound coming from the monitor.i dont see why as the monitor has no video from the mame machine when the pcb is on but it just steadys the video when the vga is plugged in. weird. to note the pcb board did work just fine in another machine with a 19" monitor. so i believe it is the fault of the WG but not sure why. i hooked up the wires right but here is the schematic of the molex....
r,g,b,ground,V...what is this for,h/v comp
if this has a h/v comp why would i need the v? what is it for vertical sync? anyways other than that reason the monitor has been great along with arcadevga. good props to the creators of both items....but i wish they would have had a switch instead of changing the wires on the monitor chassis to change to cga/ega...rating
8/10 d9200
9/10 arcadevga

I finally got my cab downstairs where it will remain.  I will try to test it with my current VGA card in the next few days.  I do have an ArcadeVGA card that I will put in after testing.  I'll report back when I get this done.

Did you ever get this running?  I'm am considering purchasing from Happs the same model but wanted to be 100% that the model on sale in the flier (495203-10) from Happs is the same or compatible with the 9200 model that they sell on their website (495203-00) that most people put in their cabinets.  The sale ends Friday (tomorrow).
