Gauntlet: Legends (or Dark Legacy) -- any emulation?
« on: July 06, 2004, 08:53:00 am »
I'm just wondering if Gauntlet: Legends or Gauntlet: Dark Legacy have been emulated yet.  Gauntlet: Legends is fairly old I believe (2000) so I'm hoping that something exists for this...

It was one of my favorite arcade games :)

Gauntley Legends actually came out around 1998 though Dark Legacy did come out in 2000.  Alucard is right though, get the Dreamcast version since it's actually superior IMO (your health doesn't go down with each second - which may not be better if you're a purist).  Those games are also available for all the current systems (XB, GC, PS2).

Thanks for the replies.

I may end up being forced to put a Dreamcast in the arcade (for Marvel vs Capcom 2, Gauntlet Legends, etc), but I'd MUCH prefer the authentic arcade versions.  One of the main reasons is because of the coin system (you need to insert a coin to play).  That might sound silly, but I really dig authenticity.

If I don't have any choice though I'll go with the dreamcast.  How much are two Dreamcast controllers? (the ones that are good for taking apart)

Gauntel Legends has been emulated

http://www.aarongiles.com

It is not on the current version of MAME (but hopefully it will be added soon).

Unfortunately even when it is added. It will likely not run at full speed. Since it will require 10Ghz to run.

Looks good!!

It's a shame that it runs so slow :(

Any other emulators that will run this game?  (not the dreamcast emulator, but an arcade emulator)

Gauntlet Legends was released on Nintendo 64. I wouldn't doubt if it is playable in one of the N64 emus.

Run far far away

One of the worst arcade conversions EVER.
"whats that pink blob?"
"thats you"
"no, that brown square firing the trinagles is me, I think the blob is a monster"
"its not moving, hey wait a second, it's me"
"right, which way am i facing......?"
and the pain just got worse

Gauntlet: Legends is fairly old I believe (2000) so I'm hoping that something exists for this...

To paraphrase R. Belmont:

"Mame doesn't have a lot of new games emulated.  The newer games emulated now are only emulated because they happen to run on really old hardware (neogeo for example).  We have no interest in emulating systems that are still viable in the arcades."

Long story short, a game released in 2000 is brand spankin new.  Now if it were 2008 this would be a valid point, but it's not.  :)

The DC conversion is more or less perfect (bar no coins), although as a big Gauntlet fan I was dissapointed by the game in general.

No way! You have a crappy tv or something? I bought it for my N64 and it wasn't arcade quality, but pretty good. Did you have the N64 Expansion card for improved graphics and stuff?

Cuz I have that. Some games require it or have high resolution options if you have it installed.
