Problem with Mamewah generating a ROM list
« on: July 05, 2004, 12:39:39 pm »
Hello,

I've been using Mamewah for ~ 4 months on my arcade machine.  When MAME 84 came out, I updated the mame executable by replacing it with the newer one.  After doing this, I opened mamewah to try it out.  When I opened the program, it locked my machine forcing me to go to task manager and end task on it.  It hasn't worked since.

Mamewah would now not generate a rom list for any of my games in MAME.  I tried a few things but they didn't work.  I use Mamewah setup and I was having the same problems with it.

I uninstalled mamewah setup and mamewah.  I then ran a registry tweak program to remove all instances of the registry that mention mamewah.  I deleted the program directories, rebooted into safe mode and did the whole process again to make sure it was all gone.  I booted back into normal mode and reinstalled mamewah by itself, then rebooted again.  I gave it all the information it needed and pointed all the paths to the appropriate directories.  I hit generate rom list and nothing happens...

If I open a dos prompt and execute mame manually it works fine.  All of my roms are intact and in the same folder.  I ran CLRmame and told it to repair anything it found.  I tried mamewah again and have the same problem.

I installed mamewah setup and tried everything again, same error.  I noticed that if I select rom folder vs list info (mame) in mamewah setup, the create game list button doesn't even light up.  After this happens, if I change the list generation method to rom only, the button lights up.  After it lights up, if I move it back to rom folder vs list info (mame) again, the create list button is list.  I press create list after this, and nothing happens.

I e-mailed miniwah about this on Saturday and haven't gotten a response.  Anyone know how to fix this?

Sorry I haven't answered your email, have been a little slack checking my email of late...

The solution is posted in this thread:

Cool, got it to work by using that command.

Looks like your gonna have to change the mamewah program to compensate for this change in mame.  They really need to stay in touch with you guys before they do stuff like this.

Thanks again.

Frankly I don't think they are too bothered about FE developers and the like as a rule.

I'll have a new List Generation Method added for the next version...
