No Name Mame slower than Reg. Mame?
« on: July 03, 2004, 01:22:42 am »
Hi...I decided to go with no name mame so i didnt see the baddumps screens. Runs fine for the most part, but a lot of games are running slower than before. Like World Class Bowling and Mortal Kombat. Normal MAME ran these fine on my 1gig system, now they run slow. So, does No Name run slower for any of you? Maybe it has too much going on? Maybe I need a different version of it?

Any ideas or input is appreciated!

That is strange, I haven't touched those drivers. And nothing I've done should affect speed. Were you using the same version of MAME as you were of No Name MAME? If so, can someone confirm this?

I'm in the same boat as Magnet_eye.  I first noticed it in Galaga 88 and quickly found that many of my games ran a bit slower when compared to the same game running on the regular version of MAME.  I ended up having to switch back because of it.  :(

BTW, I'm running MAME on a PIII 650 with 512 megs of RAM.

I'm going to release 0.84.14 (I think thats the right number) after i get the patch from SirP, than I'll start looking into speeding things up. Does MAME:Analog+ have the same slowdown issues?

Yea, I run a 2.5GHz Pentium 4, so I really can't check for slowdowns and such myself.

Well, its a fact. Today i simply went into Mamewah and changed my emulator executable to mame instead of noname mame, and i tried out games like mortal kombat and world class bowling, etc which used to work fine for me, and sure enough they worked again no problem. NO NAME MAME is totally slower than regular MAME. I don't know why, but it is true.

Oh well, i am back to reg. mame again.

GatesofBull..maybe you can make it better?

I'm downloading Mame Analog as we speak.  As soon as I compare them I'll get back with you.

Edit: Looks like Mame Analog shows slowdown on my machine as well.   :(
