SNAAAKES hacked PS controller... need help

ok well ive PMed snake, emailed him, and like 5 days later no response so whatever...

i got 2 hacked PS controllers off of someone on this board who got them from snake but ended up not needing them.  so i get the controllers and on both of them the wires are labeled but im confused about a couple things

there are no labeled R2 L2 wires and no extra wires that are unlabeled, on the shoulders of the pads there are 3 wires, 1 of them is extended and is the L1/R1 but the other 2 are short and not labeled. are one of these the R2/L2 and what is the other one?

also on the left shoulder there is a wire labeled "GR" right near the L1.. what is this?

Thanks for any help you guys can give, i will be recieving my buttons soon for my PopN panel and im very anxious to get everything together as soon as possible so i can play =)   my project is nearing completion

On pretty much all of the PS pads I've hacked, the shoulder button board are connected to the main board by three wires, one for ground, one for button 1 (L1 or R1, depending) and the last for button 2.  If I had to guess, whoever requested the hacked pads from Snaaake wanted a five button setup (four face, R1 &L1 buttons) but Snaaake, being the nice person he is, added two shorter wires for the L2 and R2 buttons, and the ground connections if that person changed their mind.  

A picture tells a thousand words, if you post one, I can probably tell you what wire is what.

The non labeled short wires are R2 and L2.
GR=ground.

ok so i just need to extend them, on the left side its just 1 short wire cause the other is the ground which is extended. on the right side theres 2 short wires, so im guessing one of them is ground and 1 is R2? happen to know which one? if not i guess i can just try both

another question, for the popn controller im making im going to need to have the down, left, and right buttons held down on the PS controller. so i got a wire coming off of each of them, so when the microswitch would be pressed for that button it makes a circuit...

so all i need to do is just ground those 3 wires, and they will be always on.. i think?


btw im so tired and i leave work in 20 min, if this is a dumb question thats why, heh

Yes.
The middle wire is ground and other is R2.
I don't know anything about pop n'music so someone else have to help you on that one

well i should be able to do this but for some reason i cant logicly think it out in my head.

forget about what this is for, just think about this problem, you have a wire coming off the PS controller lets call it button A, this button needs to be permanantly "on" as if you were holding it down. how would i accomplish this? what should i do with this wire

You do this by attaching the button A wire to ground (permenantly...like by soldering it or twisting it to ground).

I seriously doubt you want to do this permenantly though (for just one game)...so you have another option.  Wire it up to a regular arcade button (with quick-disconnect), but use the normally closed connector (not the normally open connector).  This makes the button always ON unless you press it.  You can then simply unhook, and rehook to the normally open connector when you play other games.

Why not the ground wire from the controller?

It's the same thing.  If something is grounded, it's connected to ground.

A good grounding point (which is easily changable if you want to use the button normally) is the "NC" connection on your arcade button...using quick-disconnects on your wires you can change the button to be "always on unless pressed" or "always off unless pressed".   Hope this makes sense.

i just got off the phone with Wico btw... my button order is on its way. popn music 9 and my VGA box are getting here today along with my PS2 flip top cover mod.... its all coming together!!!

I recently made a 2nd PNM controller and thankfully I took a picture of what to do. Just throw a blob of solder on the buttons you want depressed. Very simple. In this case D/L/R (picture upsidedown).
