I highly recommend this guy. He modded my Xbox and it was done very quickly with everything I needed. I also had my xbox upgraded from 80gb to 160gb. He put in a new fan and the new harddrive with no problems.

Thanks morph you did a great job fixing my xbox. You installed my chip perfectly and now I don't have a problem with fragging. I am enjoying the benifits of my modded xbox.

No offense, but I just love when people charge to install HDDs when they are modding someone's system.  If all you are doing is changing the hard drive, ok, charge a few bucks.... but $20 extra for 11 screws?.... 7 of which you already have to take off to mod the system.....

I'll just never understand it...

theres more too it than that..
using the xbox hard drive manager tool is a little too much for some of the less technically gifted..
Putting in a new HD requires you to install the new HD in your PC,set its as master and run the linux XBHDM on your PC to accomplish the process of setting up a proper Xbox compliant directory structure and lock the drive..
some people have never even seen the inside of a PC.let alone tinkered with one and would probly not mind spending 20 bucks to avoid the hassle..
its not just a drop in job..

Totally agree. Alot more invovled then removing 4 extra screws...

also a word of advice to anyone using an installer//ill save you the hassle i had in the past...
should you decide to have a mod done by an installer, ANY installer, for ANY console..
open yor xbox/PS2 and take a picture of your mobo its SN, and a pic of the disk drives label and SN as well..
if its an xbox, take picture of the info page that displays your Xboxs version information as well
This is to prevent an unscrupulous installer from harvesting what may perhaps be better parts and replacing them with inferior ones
include a copy of thses pics with your Xbox/PS2 when you deliver yourt console..

i had a PS2 mod done a year or so ago and not only did he swap out my mobo for a less desirable version, but he installed a cheap clone chip and kept my expensive one//

if your installer is on the level then taking thee few precautions should be no problem for him..

just a word for the wise..

Funny, I've put in 8 different hard drives in various xboxes now and I've never once had to do any of that.  I put in a freshly formatted hdd... load up Slayer's and that's that.  Nothing else involved at all if your system is modded.  Hit "format drive for larger hard drive" then go get a drink.

I doubt as an installer he would bother taking the long route when there is a much simpler (and more time-saving) way.

I guess you never ran into a Thompson drive!?  My xbox won't read anything, even DVD-R, and even after I tweaked the laser pot!  I'll have to hotswap the drive into another machine and DD it over to the new drive, then install all the apps manually.  :'(

Yikes!  That sucks.  I've only dealt with one Thompson, but it read my DVD-Rs, at least the Slayer disc I had available.  All the xboxes I see often (friends, gf, my own) have Samsung drives :)  I made sure of that beforehand, heh.

its such a crapshoot with these thing, different kernals, drives etc..
for the uninitated, the money spent for a premod is a bargain compared to the frustration of trying to go thru to the "usual place" to hunt down software and then trying to find what works with your particular coctail of hardware..
the mere utterance of the words IIRC and Linux make the mortal computer user piss themselves in fear. :P
