BYO Ekocardiogram?
« on: June 29, 2004, 04:03:06 pm »
I am not sure on the spelling, but I an Echocardiogram machine or EKG (monitors heart stuff) seems like it could be home built.  I went to the hospital the other day and witnessed an EKG (everyone was fine, thankfully) and I thought, "Could I and the geniuses at www.arcadecontrols.com make one of these from hacked computer and arcade parts?"  Any thoughts?

definition and spelling of EKG.

I believe there are different levels of EKGs, as I've had 3 wire, 5 wire and 7 wire EKGs.  They all had the first 3 wires in the same place: all on chest (two left and right front, last under left arm).  My 5 and 7 tests placed other sensors in different places on chest and sometimes ankles.  Not sure why.

Wow, googled it and first was http://www.eng.utah.edu/~jnguyen/ecg/ecg_index.html.  Didn't read so not sure if it's true.

A Ha! My hunch was right!  BTW, I am not considering using this for medical purposes, that would just be stupid.  However, it may have some fun purposes.

I am still considering the whack a mole game... the trick will be finding the pistons and air pressure control systems. I think I might follow that guy's example and Build my own EKG.  Should be fun.  Maybe I can be an EKG tech for fugitives.

I've gota couple of ECG machines in the basement, the hardest part of getting them going is to get a good electrical connection to the skin. The thought albiet slim of a wire slipping and getting a nice shock has kept me from firing them up.
Now what about a EEG machine?????!!
I saw a show last night on new tech & toys, and they had this 2 person game, with a small strap that went around your forhead. It measured alpha and theta waves, to tell how relaxed you were.
The players sat on oposite sides of a table, and there was a ball in the middle. Using a magnet uinder the table on a guide, if you were more relaxed than the other player, the ball would roll towards them, if they were more relaxed it would roll towards you.... Kinda like a mental relaxation tug of war.

I must build one....... The mechanics and pickup are the easy part, I just suck at the programming... must learn....
