Ultimate AdvanceCD CD
« on: June 27, 2004, 07:42:21 pm »
My goal is to make an AdvanceCD with only MAME games to show off to my brother on my upcoming vacation.  What I want to do is make a CD with the the most and best games possible.  I figure I will use the ArcadeControls top 100 as a guideline, but I do not want anything that would be not-fun played on a keyboard, so trackball and spinner games are out as well as most yoke, shooting, and driving games.  He also has an older PC, so no really intensive games (like Mortal Kombat 3).  I need file name and dependencies and so on.  ANy ideas?  Has anyone done something like this before?

Thanks,

Don't tell me I am the first to think of this.  C'mon... what are your ideas?

Well, anything you think he'd like.  Put in a wide range from classics to fighters to neogeo.

That is what I will ultimately end up doing, I was just wondering if anyone else had made a "Greatest Arcade Hits" arcadecd before and what they put on it.

Well, I did it.  I got 172 games on 1 cdr.  Took me about 2 days.  I will attach a screenshot of my rom set in a new message if anyone wants to replicate this masterpiece.

Comments?

Actually, I got 174 FILES, including 2 source roms, and a few 2 player clones of games, so around 170 individual games somewhere.

I openly challenge all comers :o to make a better arcadecd romset and post it here. ;D  Rules are: it must fit on one cdr.  I could have fit more (I had about 30-40 free megs), but opted to leave a little space open.  Anyone brave enough to try it?

Looks like I will be adding a few more games to my cd.  Likely Qix and the rest of the list.  A couple games do not work properly, namely Bubble Memories and Armor Attack and I still have not finished all of my testing.

Additionally, what should I name this CD?
"ArcadeCD... the greatest arcade games"
"ArcadeCD... the collection vol. 1"
"ArcadeCD  Checksum...ok"
"ArcadeCD... Top 175"
"ArcadeCD... Does the fun ever start?"
"Never mind the bullocks, here's ArcadeCD!"
"The Ultimate Time Waster: ArcadeCD v.1"

Anything sound good?  The ultimate time waster seems to be my favorite name so far.

Here is the third version of the Arcade CD and the best yet.  I had to take out xexex due to issues with advancecd, but I added in more games for a total of 185 individual games, 4 2player clones and 2 source files.  I also put in the needed samples and artwork. 668 megs of arcade joy!

Let me start by saying that I really like your list. I would probably add a few (and remove a few) but when making my list I would definetly start this as a base.

A few more classics.

timepilot
amidar
gberet
commando
blkdrgon

Regarding the name of the set.... Not sure ultimate is the right word.  very subjective.

good luck

Yeah, "Ultimate" is a bit too much, I like "Time Waster v.1" the best.
I am now starting on a second AdvanceCD project for a "best of what's left" sort of disk.  I will start by adding your suggestions to the list; got anymore suggestions? Anyone? I am after good games not on the first cd (version 3).

Oh, and one thing about the first cd, I put on all the working vector games and all of the Exidy shooters except "Chiller" (kids will be playing this!) to add a little extra flavor, so not all of the games are my absolute favorites, but I think it represents the genre well.

Hi! I would like to know where you got that top 100 you talk about. That would get me started for when I want to try a new game.

In the main BYOAC forum, we compiled a top 100 games list.  Search for "top 100" using the BYOAC search tool in the main forum and it should pop right up.  I skimmed through the tp 100 leaving some games off for performance reasons, but got most of them plus almost 100 more games on my first ArcadeCD disk.

I have worked and am working on taking games from MAWS as well, but be careful, a game can be in the Hall of Fame with a high rating, but only reviewd by 10 people, thus probably not worthy of the grade.

I have made a Volume 2 of the Ultimate Arcade cd (first edition).  I still have a lot of space available and I added a MESS Vetrex emulator with all of the available Vetrex games to this disk.  Any recommendations of other cool games not included on this or the first disk?
