Seeing as I always seem to have piles of odd junk lying around my apartment, I thought I might as well put it to good use and put together a little bar-top machine.
I took
Jakobud's fantastic plans for the full size Galaga upright, scaled the side down 75% and then cut the arse off it.
I'm going to use 1/2" mdf and T-Molding that I found at
McMasterCarr for 21c per foot (part number 93165K1). I should just about be able to squeeze an ancient 17" PC monitor in there along with a very dusty looking Cyrix 6x86 based computer running ArcadeOS and VAntAGE from a 32mb compact flash card.
For some reason I began with the side-art (I have no idea why, I've never even used sideart on a project before). I took
PatrickL's beautifully vectorized Galaga sideart and bastardized it. It still needs some cleaning, but looks like it should fit nicely. I'm trying to keep this as small as possible, so I might see if I can incorporate the marquee into the bezel somhow, or leave it out completely.
I'll spend a lot of time planning this all out, so hopefully I won't run into too much trouble when building time arrives.
Here's the beginnings....
