My attempt at a front end.
« on: June 21, 2004, 08:51:30 pm »
Hey all.

I've been setting up a media/games computer for a while now.... going from OS to OS, from FE to FE. Linux had the best FE for what I wanted (Myth), while Windows ran the software I wanted to use in the FE.. it was a lose/lose situation ;)

So I went to windows, and set upon the task of writing my own FE. Styled somewhat after Myth, in appearance, but much simpler.

There's a build at..
http://mrsiggler.boob.co.uk/sigtv/SigTV-0.1.zip

It's not 100% functional, the list screen isn't done, nor can you launch any games/applications, but you can get an idea for how the FE will look, and how you go about editing the menu layout.

Any suggestions, bitching, or bug reports are more then welcome :)

Well annoying default theme, no offense. But looking beyond that, at the core of the FE, it looks very simple and easy to use. I like it.  So many of these new FE's are so complicated... requiring like 10 different buttons to run. Keep it up!

An update!

Got more of the menu icons made, added text labels, and just generally polished what was already there.

Time to get the list screen started :)

Edit: It would help if I posted the url huh? :)

Here's the main menu.

Here's the games menu.

Here's the Playstation sub menu.

And the movie menu.

The system menu.

And lastly, SigConf, the program to edit the menus.

Keep in mind, the menu layout can be completely changed from what I have here. You can have any number of sub menus as you like, menus within menus and the like.

The first usable build ;D
The list screen is there, as well as the launcher item type.

I've got it running on my system in the other room.. so far so good :D

Another update!

Now you can configure the keys used by SigFE, and i've included a working (i hope) SigJoy.

It's a joy2key app, basically.

Edit: Always forgetting to paste the URL ... ;)

That background is very active. You may want to consider toning it down a bit. I doubt I have room to talk since I haven' written my own front-end, but it's a matter of personal preference. Your background just seems pretty busy.

I agree about the background.  I really like the icons though, they add a really nice touch.

I would try a different background, perhaps a solid color with your logo in the middle... or the corners.... but I'd hate to stare at that on my cab the way it is.
first off your and idiot

Man I love the internet, haha.

Fixed a few bugs in the sigfe list screen, and a rather annoying one in SigJoy that caused it to spam keys rather then send it once..

I also turned off animation, and changed the background.

Hi, sigconf still lets you change themes, but there doesn't seem to be a background.bmp for the other theme.  Causes a nasty crash.

I think it looks great! I never thought of a Freevo style FE! What a great freaking idea. I think your going to have a hell of a time supporting so many systems off the bat, but it's still pure genius! and I love your icons for the systems, did you make those yourself?
