Old cab plans scrapped.

New cab plans have been made.  Estimated time to start construction is 1 month.  Making final adjustments and trying to think of a name.  Cab measures 70" tall, 26.25" wide and 39" deep.  It will house a 21" monitor.  2 Player CP with modular trackball/spinner.  Admin buttons will be located on front of CP.

I don't see how it would be wobbly.  The base isn't smaller than the top.

Edit:  LOL.. well, I guess if it does wobble, I've found the name for my cab... the wobble-cade.  When I finish the project, I'll let you know.

you may want to consider making the based slightly larger than the top.  With the monitor up high, it will be top heavy and subject to tipping over.

I am interested in how your project turns out, I want to build another cab, but running out of room in my small basement.  Have been trying to figure out how narrow I could make one with a vertical monitor, but still be stable.

The base is slightly wider and deeper at the bottom than the top is.  I guess it's hard to tell at the angle the model is at.

That may be true.  I'll let everybody know about stability issues when I build the base.

The PC is going to me mounted behind the marquee.  It will be a little tight.  I have an old ATX case where the motherboard tray slides out.  I'm going to use that a ditch the rest of the case.

This may help answer some more questions.  I've setup a site that I will use to document the contruction of the cabinet.  If there's any questions you have that aren't answered there, don't hesitate to ask.  I would still like everyone's opinions and feedback on this design.  Thanks everybody!

usually monitor is the hottest thing... (temperature I mean...)

mounting the PC at the marquee area....
you'll need a lot of air flow to make sure it stays cool...
(hot air rises and above the monitor is where its the hottest in the whole cab....)

also... then I would recommend you use Intel than AMD....
(AMD does run much hotter....)

There's going to be a 115v 4 1/2" exhaust fan blowing out the back at the top of the cabinet.  I plan on having two vents in the bottom behind the side supports to cool the monitor and one in the top towards the marquee to cool the motherboard.

To make it stable you could mount the monitor so it faces upwards and mount a mirror in the top. It looks like it might be a bit top heavy otherwise.

I don't think that will be a possibility, unless I use an LCD screen.  Maybe I misunderstood what you meant.

Well, I think I've come up with a name for the cabinet.  Since it seems to resemble a mushroom cloud, I think I'm going to call it Radiation Station.  I did a search on google and didn't find any cabinets already with that name.  Let me know if one already exists with that name and I'll brainstorm again.

the biggest problem I can see with this design is:
Where are you supposed to kick it?

I kick mine all the time...that doesn't make sense to a lot of people, but I think it's makes it more authentic.

Maybe I'll put a kickplate on the wall next to it.  

I wasn't really aiming for an authentic(traditional?) cabinet with this project.  If I wanted to do that, I could just buy a gutted cab and put a computer in it.  I'm building this guy from scratch, so I figured I would try some new things.  The top part is removeable and if my base doesn't work out, I can always make a regular bottom to go on it, or just make it a bartop.
