What old systems did you guys actually buy? I still have a  Intellivision in my gurage with like 3 grocery bags full of games , think the consoles broken though. I had like one of the girst ataris , super NES ,Nes , original gameboy, sega, sega cd , sega 32x, n64 and such. I think i like the old systems better than the newer ones.

Colecovison (still have it), NES (power supply exploded... no really it did), SNES, Genesis, that gaud-awful Sega CD (bought it when it first came out, I might have been happier if I only paid $50 bucks instead of $300), and from there pretty much all the newer systems ('cept Saturn and Virtual Boy ).   EDIT: Almost forgot my good ole C-64

Atari 2600 Jr, NES, SNES, PS2, GBA SP.  That's it.  Well, I also have a TI-99/4a, which is more of a computer, but it uses cartridges.

I think the PS2 & GBA are going to be the last consoles I buy.  I just can't get into the newer games.  I liked GTA3, and to a lesser extent Vice City, and the girlfriend likes DDR2 Max, but other than that the PS2 just collects dust.  I haven't touched the GBA since January, and would love to sell it, but the girlfriend wants me to keep it around for trips and such.

I have managed to keep all of my game systems since the early days. They are in no particular order.

Fairchild chanel F
Collecovision
Atari 2600
Vectrex
Genesis - x32 - cd
NES
Jaguar
SNES
3DO
dreamcast

All were very fun to play.

I have come pretty close to gutting one or two of them to use as a case for an mini-itx system.

I have owned.

Atari 2600
Atari 5200 (had one game Pac-Man, had no joysticks).
Atari 7800
Atari 800

Coleco-Vision with Atari 2600 add on.
Nes
Super Nes
N 64
3DO
Genesis
Gameboy (the original one).
Sega Pico (free standing store display unit).
Sega Dreamcast.
Several Pong consoles.
Bootleg pirate NES unit that had 3 built in games and did not take carts.

Most of my systems I bought long after they came out, or even after they were dead or dying.

I currently own an Atari 800 the bootleg NES and about 12 Sega Genesis units. None of them are setup.
Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.

I have sworn off videogame systems now that I have my own arcade and that I play PC games.  I probably own a smaller collection of systems than most people on the board.
- Intellivision
- NES
- SNES
- N64 - (This system made me angry at nintendo.  After the first few years, I thought there were no new good games)
- Dreamcast (I bought this one when it was new - soul caliber sealed the deal)

The PS2 looks really tempting right now w/ its huge game library and cheap price.

Did some dumpster diving last weekend. And found a NES that was in the box it had everything minus the game. It even had the light gun. I think it was from the first year because the box has the mattel logo on it.

Here's a chronological rundown:

VIC-20
C-64 -- Sure this and the VIC were computers but I used them almost exclusively for games.
Atari Lynx -- Wish I had kept it
Sega Genesis -- Still have it
PS
PS2
XBOX

It's odd but I've never owned any type of Nintendo system.

My dad insisted that an Atari (2600) was a horrible idea (although we'd had a Sears Pong console with little sliders instead of knobs).  So in 1980 he bought a TRS-80 Color Computer, and paid the $300 to have it boosted from 16k RAM to 64k Ram.  This allowed me to pester him for cartridges for it, and write programs like:

10 PRINT "HELLO ";
20 GOTO 10

Over the years I've owned and heavily used the following:

Coleco Telstar 2
Atari VCS
Atari 2600 (the updated version from early '80s)
Atari 2600 jr.
Colecovision
VIC 20
C-64
C-128
NES
Macintosh IIix
Genesis
Genesis III (the Majesco version)
SNES
Game Gear
PS1 (forever PSX to me)
Virtual Boy
Xbox

For awhile I fancied myself a collector so I had the following computers in various states of repair and disrepair (until a fire wiped them all out about 3 years ago: >:(

IBM PC
IBM PCjr
Apple IIe
Apple IIc
Coleco Adam
TI 99 4/A
Tandy CoCo 3
Apple Macintosh

wow!! I wrote EXACTLY the same program in highschool! what are the odds of that!
only normally it wasn't the word 'hello' that filled the screen...

Wow I can't believe how many of u guys still have all those old systems!  I always had to sell the old system to buy the newer one.  :(

Systems I had were:

Commodore 64, sold to buy
NES, sold to buy
SNES, sold because didn't play anymore...
Gameboy Mono (see through clear case version) -> still have but never use.

Not consoles, but I also still have the following Nintendo Game & Watch LCD handheld games:
Parachute
Manhole
Tropical Fish
Mario's Cement Factory

Anyone else have these?  I got them when I was young to play in the car during the long trips on holiday.  Extremely simple games, but quite addictive   :P

I've noticed that no one so far was lucky enough to own a Neo Geo AES system.

I know I tried like crazy to get my parents to get me one  ;D

They were ok with the system price but the $200+ per game ... they were like hell will freeze over first before that happens  :'(

You know, I don't even remember wanting one.  I never saw (and still don't) see why it's so great.  I mean, sure, the cartridges were huge, but if I remember correctly, it's only because they didn't compress their compiled code in any way.  Whatever minor speed benefit you get from that doesn't justify an extra $150+ per cartridge, in my opinion.

The thing with the NeoGeo system was that the cartrideges were the same ones that worked in the arcade machines.  You were suppoosed to buy it so you could play the arcade versions of the games at home instead of bad ports of the games.

Considering how popular MAME is, they probably had the right idea.  They just had a really bad price point, and then the next generation of consoles came out.
Real Life.  Still a poor substitute for video games!
