Does anyone use any of the "extra" features in MAMEWAH?
« on: June 18, 2004, 06:55:06 pm »
Hello

After using Mame32 for the past 3 years.  I decided to try MAMEWAH.  And so far I have no compliants about MAMEWAH.

Just a question.  I've read about the "extra" options in MAMEWAH via the Readme.  And I'm wondering why would someone use them?  Or how are you using these fields?

Here's a list of the options I'm wondering about:

- Default Options
- Extra Options #1
- Extra Options #2
- Any of the Sounds? Is there a sound pack?
- Control.dat Default Options
- Control.dat Viewer Filename

Also, is anyone using a Screensaver?  Is it a Arcade themed screensaver?  As I would like to get one for my machine.

Thanks
-GGKoul

You can use the extra options to send commandline parameters to MAME.  I actually use them.  I have Extra Options #1 set to -cheat.  I never actually use cheats, however, I do use the "overclocking" to speed up some neo geo games.  For #2, I use -resolution 640x480 which forces a TV friendly resolution.

For a screensaver, try emusaver, which can be downloaded here:
http://www.oscarcontrols.com/lazarus/

It basically rotates through random MAME games, using their attract mode as a screensaver.

'Default Options' can be used to add commandline options *every time* you launch a game...pretty pointless for MAME as you can configure it all using mame ini files, but for some emulators this cannot be done.

'Extra Options #1/2' is the same as above, but you hit a different key to launch the game with these options.  I only use these occasionally, usually when I am trying things out.

You can get some sample sounds from my downloads page...

Controls.dat viewer stuff is for Howards controls.dat viewer (Johnny5), to display your control panel layout & controls.

I use extra options #1 to run vertical games on my horizontal monitor by using -nohwstretch.  This was the easiest way I found to get around this.  Somebody may have a better solution but it works for me.

Minwah has some sample event sounds for download at his site.  I ended up using some I found on my computer but they really add something to the experience of the machine.
