Mamewah question
« on: June 14, 2004, 04:22:58 am »
Here's the situation,

I have a set of .79 roms that I downgraded to .37 because I am putting them into another older computer.  The games run great, but I can't get mamewah to use the official names and not the rom folder names.  Does this only work with newer versions of mame?  I tried using a dat file but since I don't even know for sure what the heck that is I'm a little lost.  Any way to get the regular names of the games to show up in mamewah for my situation?

Thanks,
Jedimason

It *should* work with an old MAME version but I have heard a few people having problems...are you using DOS MAME?

You could try making the 'dat' file: goto a command prompt, navigate to your mame folder and do 'mame -listinfo > mame.dat'.  Now set the List Generation Method to 'DAT File Only' and Refresh the games list - see what happens...

Well, it still won't let me create the game list after I have created the dat file and then change the rom info to dat file only.  Using the setup utility, It seems the only time that I can ever get the games to use the real names even with v.79 is when i put all my roms in the rom folder in mame and then setup a new emulator.  I also can't get it to work just using mamewah's own setup.  There is no way for me to generate the list of games without choosing rom folder only.

This is weird because I'm using an older version of mamewah on a dedicated cab and everything worked with no problems the first time.

Hmmm, I don't know.  I know for a fact it works because I was using v0.36final temporarily on my cab with an old PC.

Here's what I would do:

Delete the contents of the \MAMEWAH\Files folder,
Run MAMEWAH,
Setup MAME only ('Emulator Executable' & 'ROM Path' if neccessary),
*Leave all other settings as default!*,
Refresh the list.

If that doesn't work I'm truly stumped  ???

Oh and I don't get what you meant by:

..that is what you always have to do, so I'm not sure what you mean...

Thanks for the help,

I got it to work by just starting over from scratch and not using the mamewah setup utility.  I don't know what was happening but all is well now.  There doesn't seem like I'm missing that many good games that were added after .37 release so I'm happy with the setup.
