My Pac-Man finally restored (pretty much....)
« on: June 12, 2004, 06:54:31 pm »
This Pac-Man I aquired a few monthes ago was in bad shape. Someone had painted over the side art, hacked the wiring harness to death and just plain abused the thing. The corners of cabinent eat away and huge gashes in side.

after about $500 worth of new parts it is finally finished besides a few more "swooshes" left around the words Pac-Man and the dots around the art.

A list of things I did:

-Installed a new Happs Monitor
-new glass bezel
-powder coated the:
     Coin door
     control panel
     marquee brackets
-new cp overlay
-new wiring harness and switching power supply (from Arcadeshop.com)
-new paint (homemade stencils from original art)
-new Happ coin mechs
-new barrel locks (Thanks Peale)
-new Midway plaque on coin door
-polished the chrome
-repaired pcb
-new t-molding

Among other things that I have forgot about now.

I am happy to see this thing finshed and sitting in my dining room for all my guest to check out.

I ABSOLUTELY DO NOT plan on selling this, but if I were to, how much do you hink it might fetch?

I would say $800 - $1000. Hard to really peg down a reclaimed sideart one like that without seeing it in  person.
Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.

Hey, nice job.  Looks brand new from the photos.

On another note, how does one 'powder' metal?  Is there special gear required?

Yeah, powder coating is a durable finish that is baked on.

I have access to the process where I work. But you can get a at home kit Jet Hot  http://www.eastwoodco.com/jump.jsp?itemType=CATEGORY&itemID=460
Eastwood Co.

and here is an explanation: http://www.powdercoating.org/consumers/

It looks very nice and won't rub off from wear etc.......

Very nice.  Your sideart is lacking some stuff.  I am PMing you.  Also if you want official pacman repo sideart goto www.twobits.com.

I know I haven't got the "swoosh" lines around the Pac-Man and the dots that run from the black dot above the ghost's head down the side and around the bottom., yet. I will be doing those in a couple days.

There isn't anything else is there?
