Marquee Input Desired!
« on: June 10, 2004, 03:24:35 am »
Hey MAMEards,
Up late again tonight working on my baby: The DorkAid.  I'm putting together some ideas for the marquee and this is what I've come up with so far.  It's not final by any means, and I would like some input on the design.  What do you think?  Should I add a border?  MAME logo?  Am I missing something?  Any other ideas?

Thanks...!
Zach

If you are stuck on the kool aid man, see about working up an breakout type "wall" and have the Kool-Aid man bust through it.

Ya, it doesn't fit on my 21" screen... 8)

Is the Koolaid man a picture? You could vectorise and photoshop it real quickly. It just looks all grainy and does not match your logo.

How about a border to frame the marquee. You know the clasic arcade rounded corner style. Maybe a red or white line, or both. That would help fill the emptiness of the black background and help give it an arcade look.
Half of the people you meet are below average.

How would I go about doing the vector thing in photoshop?  A border's a solid idea, thanks!

Yes, I know what know what "dork" can mean to some people.  It all depends on context, and in this context, "dork" does not carry any outright vulgar meaning.  And anyway, it's funny.

If we were talking about the Anuscaid or something, you'd have a decent worry.

I like the Kool Aid man theme but I think a name change is in order.

Like:

Arc~Aid

Some people get the joke.  Others may get the wrong idea (those who don't know dork is also synonymous with geeky).

But yeah, it needs a brick wall that's just been busted through.  Maybe you can mock up some 'grafitti' of classic VG characters on some of those bricks (subtle like they were 'scratched in' with a sharp object).

Adobe Illustrator or an alternative program is normally used for vector art.  However, here is a tutorial for photoshop vector art: http://www.photoshop101.com/tutorial/drawing/1141/

Here is a great vector tutorial written by Frostillicus: http://www.arcadecontrols.com/files/Miscellaneous/VectorTutorial_v1_3.zip
