For my cabinet, I was going to replicate the original simpsons arcade art. can anyone help me here? I cant find any online

I could vectorize the marquee for you. I have been meaning to do that for some time now. I'd be willing to do the side art as well if you have a good image of it. I'll probably have the marquee vectorized and available in the arcade art library sometime next week.

Yeah I thought that was pretty expensive too. Even so, printing the vector versions would be costly although hopefully not that pricey. Unfortunately, printing is expensive.

Dude, ALL of that artwork could be vectorized by one of us quite easily in my opinion. Those simpsons characters are quite simple. Nothing really complicated about it... I would be interested in taking a stab at it if no one else wants to. I won't be able to get to it right away cause I"m a little busy... also I'd need to find a little bit higher res picture to work with.

Hey Jakobud. As I said, I am going to be vectorizing the marquee. I am also working with another forum member on getting some side art photos. I think we can get this artwork vectorized w/o any trouble.

I finished vectorizing the marquee and uploaded it to the arcade art library. I will get to the side art eventually, but in the mean time if anyone wants to take it up, drop me an email and I will send you the photos.

Can I make two further colour corrections:-

Marge' hair: RGB (R: 51, G: 102, B: 254) or CMYK (C:80, M:64, Y:0, K:0)

And

Purple Outer Circle: RGB (R: 255, G: 102, B: 204) or CMYK (C:9, M:71, Y:0, K:0)

Try those........

Thanks for your help Ad Enuff. I used your Simpsons CD cover to do many of the color corrections. However, I will have to disagree with your last 2 corrections. On the marquee, Marge's hair is a dark blue - not the lighter blue which you suggest. Also, the circle is a dark magenta - once again not as light as you suggest.

I think in this case I am going to stick with the original, but thanks again for your help because it definately looks a whole lot better now. I will post your suggestions in the comments part of the arcade art library for the downloader to decide which is best.

Although I agree with you to a certain extent, I feel that my suggestions may still be valid.

I'd say it's impossible to get the right colors from scans or digital foto's. For some reason they are always too bright.

I have collected dozens of pictures of Galaga artwork to get the accurate colors for that and I was pretty sure I got it right. Then I ebayed a bit of artwork (a kickplate) and I was amazed how far off my colors were. I scanned the kickplate (and took pictures) and neither even came close to the true colors (especially the purple and blue colors were way off). My scans and pictures looked like all the other pictures I found (at least like the good ones).

Not saying who's wrong or right here, but you better check your source before you claim which color is accurate. I think the only way to be sure is to compare it to a real piece of artwork.

and then there is the issue of getting it printed in the right colors, but thats a problem for whoever uses the vector art

Totally agree with you there. Some scans or photos appear some what darker than the original. As a Forensic Scientist in Video and Photographic imagery I always have to use Photoshop to adjust the colour, contrast, gamma and brightness levels. When producing my MAME covers and other Arcade artwork I have had to do that each and everytime. As you quite rightly say its very hard to colour match without the real deal right in front of you.

I actually own the Simpsons Marquee that I scaned and used for the vectorization. But I don't have it with me. I will have access to it again in about a month, so maybe then I will take it out and revisit the issue.

Do remember that marquees will always be a darker shade as they as always lit up by internal lighting within the cab itself which in turn should then show the correct colours.

If a marquee is going to be reproduced on clear plastic to allow that then the darker version would be the one to choose.

On the other hand if an individual wishes to print directly onto paper or on a more solid background be it plastic or otherwise then the lighter version would be more appropriate.

With internal lighting in mind, its a question of which one offers the better colouring based on final output and use within and on the cabinet.

If anyone can help Talking Octopus PM him or post images and links re colour. The Simspons artwork is going to be one that will be downloaded and used a hell of alot. If we can get it right first time, other parts such as the CPO and the sideart will be much easier to reproduce and vectorize.
