Centipede CPO request..
« on: June 07, 2004, 10:20:55 am »
I am in the early stage of putting together (yet another) Centipede clone cab...

To this end, I want to use a "custom" CPO that carries the original theme through but with a bit of a twist.  This CPO that Lance did pretty much goes down the road that I am after...

I recently won an Ebay auction for 2 Atari Volcano buttons which I intend incorperating on this panel up the top and towards the middle (obviously with a balanced look).  As with this CPO, I will be using 2 Ultimarc joysticks and 6 buttons per player and the CP will measure 24" x 9" - the "front" facing part of the CPO will be pretty much the standard size..

If anyone  can help me out with the vectorisation of this then know that  I am willing to pay for this one off...!!  If someone can point me in the right direction of who to turn to then this would be very very cool..   :D

I made one just like the above.  I haven't got it printed yet.  I just ordered the original cpo to use as a guide to confirm that the measurements and distances are ok (it looks a little wacked right now).  I'll probaly be a few weeks before I get that one in the mail and have time to play with it (the cpo).

I used the centipede cpo off of the Arcade Art Library to start.

Let me know if you're interested... once I'm done I'll put up a post here and upload it to the Arcade Art Library.

I'll see if I can give it a go after work today. The CPO on localarcade seems like it could be modified pretty easily.
When you say the front" facing part of the CPO will be pretty much the standard size - do you mean it will remain the same as the original Centipede was?

This community never ceases to amaze me with its generosity - thanks so very much guys..!!

Exactly..  I am not sure if this would look balanced with the increase CP size though but I am assuming that being the fact it is vectorised would mean it isn't too hard to change..?  The width of the cabinet (and therefore the CPO) is pretty much standard size (ie. Jakobuds plans)

Cheers

Thought I'd let you know that I'm working on it. It's a little more trouble than I thought, so I don't think I'll get it done tonight. Here's a WIP of what I've got so far...

Uh-oh! I just checked Jakobuds plans and it's got the control panel at 7 1/2" x 23 3/4" (plus another 2 7/8" on the front). Are you building from these plans, or do you have a bigger CP?

I am "basing" my cab design on Jakobuds dimensions but increasing the depth of the CP by approx 2 inches - refering to the CP dimensions below, this should make it around 8 9/16" (210mm) + the 3/4" radius.  I will be adjusting the sides of the cabinet to suit the modified CP.
That said, this is the reason I am wanting to get the artwork done first because I think it will be easier to adjust my CP size dimensions slightly to suit the artwork than the other way around..  I plan to send the image file to ClassicArcadeGraphix.com and then work from there..

Gotta say though JoyMonkey... that is some pretty awesome work - I can see this is going to cost me my first un-born  ;D

I'll resize it and finish it off tomorow night. Do you know what the PMS numbers are for the colours by any chance? I'd like to get the background colour and green borders as close as possible to the real thing.

no idea what a PMS number is.

But...  I was going to send mine to http://www.classicarcadegrafix.com and I think that he might be able to play around with the colrs the best he can to get them to match, but the e-mail communications aren't the most clear and he wont let me call him.  If you get any of the PMS Numbers (I imagine that they are the codes that define colors), I would like them too.  Let me know.

thanks.

Here's an update. I'm not sure how to connect Player2's joystick "mushroom" to the green border without ruining the symmetry of the whole thing. Any ideas?

It would be nice to know the PMS numbers, but I guess ClassicArcadeGrafix will be able to match it up when it goes to print.

Hoopstar, If you get this printed and they match the colors, can you ask them for the PMS numbers?  Tell them that it would likely save him a lot of time in the future cause we could update the colors before we send it to them.  Thanks.

Looks like they already have all the Centipede PMS numbers correct. This page mentions the painfull color matching process they went through for a Centipede job.

Not sure if they'll give out the PMS numbers freely after spending so long figuring them out.  :P

Honestly, couldn't care less.  They'll be printing it anyways and if they want the extra work thats fine.  When its all said and done, I don't doubt that I'll be happy with their work!

 ;D

(nice work btw)

You guys could just use my Centipede CPO that I made and modify it.  Perhaps thats what you are already doing... It's the one that is posted on the vector artwork website.  I 'think' i kept everything in layers, so you should be able to delete whatever objects you don't want quite easily.

You mean this one? I didn't know who originally made it, but it's very well done. The one I'm working on is a complete mess of different layers now, but the result looks good. Hopefully nobody will ever look at the actual line art. :-[

ClassicArcadeGraffix sent me a small raster sample of their CPO so I could match up the colors with theirs. Their colors are all set to RGB, so they'll be different on my computers profile and I'm not sure what they'll print like; but I'm sure it's bound to be close enough. I'm told that most arcade game CPOs went through color variations with each batch of art that was printed, so it's impossible to know exactly what the color should be because there are actually several 'correct' colors.

Yeah I made that one.  I believe the layers were a mess in the end as I never bothered to name anything correctly or consistently.
