led's flashing in the sideart? good idea or 2 cheesey?
« on: June 02, 2004, 08:52:04 am »
im still building..............but keep thinking about what to call the cab and what art i would like.

1st thought- Name: Call it 'Beast' or 'From The Darkness' - ran out of ideas.... pretty quick here.

2nd thought: for artwork  have a monster of some sort coming out of the woods or a generally dark place.

3rd thought - LEDs: Have flashing red led's in the monsters eyes. - thought this would be great.

NOT TOO MUCH THOUGHT HAS BEEN PUT INTO THE IDEA - JUST THOUGHT IT WOULD BE COOL. or is it a cheesy idea?

the side of the cab will be 12mm MDF with the artword covered by 4mm plexi/lexan - this allows a good finish with 5/8" t-mold.

How do i secure the plexi/artwork to the mdf??? big black carriage bolts???

cheers,
garryb

For some reason, the first thing I thought of was a woman... with LED... well, you get the idea.  I think it's a cool idea.  Game cabs are supposed to be cheesey.

Well, you COULD use your wife as the model, but that may get you slapped more than once. ^_^

Actually what i think would be good and wouldnt be so cheesy is if u had a monster coming out of a dark woods and had small cut of frosted plastic for the eyes and had a light behind it which slowly dimmed then went bright then dimmed like slowly.

I think it would look good :) but thats just me ;)

dont think i could use the wife as a model.......... there isnt enough width on the cabinet......OOOOOOOO LUCKY SHE DOESNT READ THESE FORUMS.........i hope!

NiN^_^NiN - I love your idea!!!! i think that would look great! - your idea is definatley in..... do you think a frosted soft glow moon would go into that - or is that overkill?

i found a monster pic i liked and thought about using the general idea of it - now i cant find it, typical!

I was thinking it might be cool if you connected the LEDs to one of those - I don't know the right word, but it senses light and will turn on a circuit when there is no light.  Photovoltic cells?

That way when the lights were turned off in your game room, the red LED eyes would turn on.

I think the moon glowing and the monster being a werewolf with glowing red eyes would match perfectly.

You can forget about the frosted look you could get the stuff printed on vinal then have light on inside the cabinet so u have holes cut out where the moon and eyes are :)

of course y have clear plastic in the hole so u dont poke a hole through the vinyal :) but a full moon glowing and a werewolf with red eyes would look cool i think ;D

gonna have 2 sheets of 2mm plexi to sandwich in anyway -so it all fits nice with the t-mold......

BUT I LIKE IT.............. great ideas so far......... wolfy type monster thingy and the moon..........magic.

I think your best bet is to look for a horror movie then u can rent it at the store scan it really huge and then tiker with it to its looking like what u want. :)

its gonna be hard cause you would need it to be vectored to fit on the side of the cab even if it was only alittle side art.

So try a movie cover for an idea ;)

I was going to try and use some EL Wire for a neon sign in my marquee.  It might give you a little more light on the huge side of a cabinet than an LED.

GRRRRR.... I was just about to post the same exact idea right before I scrolled down and read this.  ;D   It invloved spelling out ARCADE CLASSICS in neon rope (glow wire stuff) hovering in front of a regular marquee.  I abandoned it though since for the first cab I wanted a more traditional look.  Maybe for the third....
