The REAL problem with NBA Jam games
« on: June 01, 2004, 01:50:14 pm »
As a die-hard Sacramento Kings fan, I have always found myself drawn to NBA Jam and similar games, but there is one thing that always gives me fits.  Most of the NBA arcade games (well, those available and playable on Mame) feature the Kings when they couldn't buy a break with ultra-suck players (though I loved them still).  So whenever I play these games it is double hard because I not only want to win, but I got to do it with the Kings during the lean years.  Are there any newer games like NBA Jam available (I have plenty of realistic PC NBA games, but I am talking about the silly games). Also, does anyone else have this same problem?

As a Bengals semi-fan, I've always had this problem with NFL sports games.  Even Madden 2004, when the Bengals finally had a not-last-place year, doesn't give them any credit.

If you've got a PS2, try the new NBA Jam they released last year, should have this year's roster on it.

Okay, I did not realize that franchise of games was still alive.

I can feel your pain, people like Madden, Charles Barkley, and Bill Walton always get lots of air time but have no real idea what the <insert expletive of choice here> they are talking about.  They just make for better ratings, and that, as I have found out over the last three years as a Kings fan have found out.

Whats the Kings roster like in NBA Hangtime?
Have the same problem with Hockey games WG 3d hockey and 2on2 Open Ice - but atleast Open Ice still has the Jets in it.  ;D
Thats why I leave sports game for the PC with editable rosters.

Try being a Bears fan.. Other than some of the games that have 'dream teams' like the 85 Superbowl Shufflers, you're pretty SOL

That's gotta suck.  You get your tails whupped on a regular basis by the Packers, AND you can't get a decent video game team?!?!?  Is this a case of art imitating life?

Mebbe you'll luck out and they'll get Kordell back for you!  LMAO!

Where's the safest place to be in Chicago in case of a tornado alert?  The Bears endzone....no chance of a touchdown there!

Sorry, I gotta get my shots in while I can...I've only had ten years to get it out of my system!

Midway had tried changing the name of the Jam-like BBall series (NBA Showtime, NBA Hoops, NBA Hoopz) but went back to the good old NBA Jam name for last year.  Now they've got the 1-on-1 street-ball themed NBA Ballers.  EA's NBA Street series is a decent substitute, if you don't mind the street-ball theme and style.

NBA Jam I always pick the Kings.  The players they have are actully pretty good.  Spud Webb (great dunks) and Tisdale (decent at 3 pointers) , I don't know what you are complaining about.

is there no way for anyone to modify the rom or would it be too difficult or not enough demand?. i know for some nes sports roms like rbi and tecmo superbowl football, people have created new roms with new teams/players/stats. there are even editors. it would be great to say get any unlicensed players (jordan and shaq at times) or do a new set.

I said good point earlier, but Spud Webb and Wayman Tisdale?  My other choices in any of the NBA Jam/NBA Hangtime games include from Lionell Simmon, Brian Grant (pre-dreds), Mitch Richmond (not terrible), Billy Owens, who else?  I cannot think of anymore off of the top of my head...  I will find out.  Anyway, the Kings are even excluded from many games they were so bad.
