Any thing else? My first attempt
« on: May 28, 2004, 11:44:59 pm »
Hi, i am planning on building an upright cab. I have thought pf this for a while and now got the support of my parents (I'm 15). I found an entertainment dealer near me (small town Tenesseee) and they told me they would sell me a cab. ;D

for my comp - I am using a reverse KVM switch to save money.

I am planning on 7 command buttons per player (2 players) and a start with Happ Supers running into an Ipac. One tracball with Optipac

Monitor-standard 15-17" VGA

Right now I have Mame32 v.76

Anything else or better I need? Thanks

Only advice, get a bigger monitor, a 19" at least, they go cheap on ebay, just do a search for the ones in your town because shipping would kill the deal otherwise. I just bought a 19" monitor (used) for $26.00 on ebay, just to give you an idea.  Also don't pay too much for the empty cab and don't destroy a classic cab  :P .
Best of luck.

If this is going to be a MAME only cab, a 64MB video card is actually overkill.  Most MAME systems would probably do just as well with a 4-8MB video card.  MAME does not make use of any of the rendering capabilities of the card (although there are some effects such as hardware stretch that use some, but not very much).  At some point, MAME may begin to take advatage of the capabilities of these cards but I wouldn't hold my breath.  Having said that, I have an ATI Raqdeon 9000 Pro 128MB video card in my cab for the PC games I use the cab for.  I have never used any of the nVidia cards, tending to stick to the ATI's so I am not sure what trouble, if any, you might find with those.  I am sure the card you have will be just fine.   :)

Good luck!
