Arcade Horror Story
« on: May 28, 2004, 09:30:01 am »
For some reason this morning I was thinking about a rather funny thing that happened to me when i was at an arcade in my youth.  I was playing Super Zaxxon at a local restaurant that also had a small arcade room (10 games or so) and during play I was about to hit a wall so I tried to pull up hard to get my ship over it...Well, the Zaxxon control stick popped off and I ended up drilling my forhead with the stick.  LOL.  Not only did it nock me on my arse, but I had a huge goose egg.  Didn't knock me out, but gave me a concussion.  Now thats interactive gaming!  Anyway, just thought I share.

Anyone have any similar or better arcade horror stories?

When I was in high school we were at the movie theater waiting for our show to start. We were playing a 2P shooter game, can't remember exactly what it was. But after a while we started goofing around and shooting the guns in awkward positions; behind the back, spinning around and flinging the gun all over the place like we were cowboys. (we were probably high at the time).
I remember leaning back with the gun in my hand and placing all my weight on the cord. The tension must have been too much because the rivets (or screws maybe?) popped out of the cabinet and I was sent flying back about 6 feet at what seemed to be 1000 MPH. But before I hit the deck I ended up knocking a bucket of popcorn out the unsuspecting hands of a fellow moviegoer.
Once the theater authorities caught wind of my "vandalism" they prompted me for my identification and said they were going to call the cops. I remember there was a lot of laughter and we ended up leaving and not seeing our movie.

When I was at UMass there was a small arcade in the main student center food court.  In there was a Star Wars upright, my favorite game of all time, and I used to spend a LOT of money on it.  I remember one time I was having a really bad day, but a really great game, I was approaching an all time high score.  Someone bumped into me HARD and made me lose my last ship.  I turned around ready to really tear into the person and was looking squarely into the guy's chest (I'm 5-10).  I decided to let it go quietly.

The guy who bumped me was Marcus Camby.

LMAO, that sounds exactly like something that would happen to me.

Yeah, he was at UMass Amherst at the same time as myself and my wife.

LOL I think I got it from playing the games and then eating... That's my best guess since I hadn't been kissing anybody... Mono is just a virus, though, and is spread as such.

Interesting, but we all know you are not telling us the complete truth!  That might be what we told your mom, but we all are wiser than that. I am guessing you were making out with someone your parents didn't like or passing a weedpipe or a bottle of something cheap and strong around a circle.

I believe Flampoo was correct, since I'm from Indiana.....

GO PACERS!!

During my freshman year of college they had a Marvel vs Street Fighter Cabinet in the commons.  Everyday during lunch like 15 of us would assemble and play till none remained standing.  I ended up having a huge blister in the palm of my left hand from so many spins of the damned joy.  Hurt like hell, it finally busted and thus my season ended.
